Get Power FC now or after engine break in?

Ok, before you guys throw fire at me, I've been doing searches for the general stuff, but this is kind of specific...
2 months ago, I got a good deal on an FD cause it needed new apex seals. I took it to R&R
in LA, so far they've been working on a street port & 3mm seals, and they say it'll be done in the next week or so. In the mean time, I had a few things shipped to them. When it's done, these will be the mods:

street port w/ 3mm apex seals
M2 intake
Aluminum AST
Koyo radiator
ACT street/strip clutch.

I'm planning to put a dp & some kind of cb (haven't decided what yet), so I asked them if I should get a Power FC and put it in there just to be safe. He
told me that during the break-in period (he said 800-1000 miles of less than 4000 rpms), I didn't need it, and that as I should just "get used to the car", then put the dp, cb, and Power FC in it.
But if I'm going to get it anyway, shouldn't I just put it in before I start driving it, to be safe? Also, if I do get it, would the base maps be
ok? (For $150, RX-7 store said they could send it to me tuned for these mods, after I put the dp, cb. Then I could go to XS or something and get it fine-tuned later on. )
I'm just a newbie, I'm sure the guys doing my engine know a hell of a lot more than me, but if I'm going to buy it later anyway, is there any reason I shouldn't just put it in now?
So my question is, should I install the dp, cb, Power FC before breaking it in, or go ahead and wait the
1000 miles?
Thanks in advance for any input, I really appreciate it.

Garfinkle advised me to do all I wonted and start and tune with the pfc ,run easy and be carefull . He said why pay me twice to install parts only to remove and replace them .He was right and every thing worked perfect .Plus he took out things the stock ECU needed, thePFC did not need. why pay twice .

I did all my mods at once. I see no reason to wait. You'll save on the labor and from I've been told and noticed, the base maps are fine, if anything they'll be too rich probably. Mine were.

Ok thanks for your advice. I'll go ahead and order the dp, cb and put in the Power FC (with the base maps). Just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to screw anything up right off the bat and risk another engine repair. Thanks...

It wouldn't hurt to get an A/F Meter to keep an eye on things. While many argue here most are useless for tuning (I'm sure they are), it would help to monitor.

If you know you're going with a PowerFC anyways, why not do it now and get it all tuned together. The money you save on redundant labor could be used for the Dyno tuning you'll want.

Cool. Ever since I started learning about the car, I told myself I'd get the A/F meter, but kind of forgot about it with all the other stuff. I see your point, and I agree-even if it won't help with tuning, I would like the peace of mind knowing that I'm not running too lean. Thanks again.

Actually the pfc allows you to see o2 readings. It is adequate unless you are planning on getting a wideband meter.....

Where does it do that? I just got mine but other than a vague knock sensor I don't see any monitor for 02 on the commander or in the manual unless I'm just plain missing something.

The 10 possible monitors are injection duty, the two ignition timings, air temp, water temp, bat voltage, speed, boost, knock bar, and rpm.

You are not in the right area. Look in the etc-> sensor/sw check area. The o2 reading is on the bottom left.

Thanks, good to know I'm still learning this thing.

However I'd still want an A/F meter since you can't show that information on the monitoring screen along with the other 'gauges'.
