Unhappy Garfinkle and I are stumped...(PFC problem)

Ok, So the Power FC came in yesterday and I've been clueless and today still am. Anyways on with the problem...Ok I hooked up the PFC and cut the CORRECT*** wires (checked it 80XXX times) car won't start and just turns over. Plug up the stock computer...starts right up. What gives? So I go to Garfinkle around 10:45 last night and he has one in a box that has never* been hooked up and he also has the one in his car. So we plug up his then plug up the new one...no luck. We put the new one on his car to see if we got two duds out of the box maybe...his had spark and my car didn't . So...we pulled a plug and checked for spark. He would crank and it wouldn't spark until he let off and it would spark once at the end. Then he looked in the spark plug hole while I cranked and there was no mist...which led us to believe the injectors weren't firing. Then we grounded the ECU and tried that...still no luck. Also when I try to crank, on the commander screen if I go to Injector Duty Cycle this reads 0.0%...? I am stumped, please help Garfinkle and I. If you need more details or anything tell me I will provide them. Thanks a bunch guys, hope you can help

When you say that David's car had spark --- do you mean both new PFCs work in his car? Does your new PFC work on David's car?

If so then your problem is probably related to the wire cuts. No matter how many times you checked the cut wires you need to check them again. Have David call me on the cell phone as soon as possible.

Yes the PFC works in his car. No the problem isn't wire cuts...we are definately absolutely positively sure it's not that. We spent from around 11-maybe 1:30 tracing and checking the wires...they're all the correct ones. What's your name/cellphone number? Thanks for your help though

Check to see if the fuel pump and injectors are getting a signal. It sounds like a wiring problem in your car if it works in another car.

When I first used my PFC, it worked for a couple days then ran like **** and wouldn't start. Found that it wasn't giving power to the fuel pump resistor (located by the ignitor). Tried a friends PFC and it started right up.

ok I will try that, I think I said the injector duty cycle when trying to crank over was at 0.0% and we also checked it and they weren't firing...I will try the fuel pump connections and grounds. Any more info would be appreciated. Thanks Guys

I'm having no luck with this. I tried grounds and wires. I did have a little change. I heard from someone that you can leave a wiring connector (one of the 4 on the ecu) unplugged and it might* start up. I tried that and saw the injector duty cycle jumped to 2.5 after I stopped cranking. I got out of the car (after about 5-10 seconds of cranking) and there was a faint smell of gasoline coming out of the exhaust pipe. I have no clue fellas....please help

Thanks

When first cranking your duty cycle will be in the teens. You don't mention unflooding the motor (pull fuel pump relay, remove plugs, crank over with throttle wide open) but perhaps it has gotten flooded with all the failed starts. When you remove the plugs are they wet with gas?

This ones a tough one since the car starts with the stock ECU. Maybe try looking at your harness plugs, possibly a damaged plug resulting in a bad connection.

ok, it hasn't gotten flooded because it starts over with 2 cranks on the stock ecu just like normal and the injector duty cycles are really low like 2.5 and 3.9 so it's probably not getting enough fuel to flood it. I am going to try a voltmeter to all the connections on the harness and check them. This sucks, any more tips for me to check while I'm in there would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys

Did you do any other work at the same time as the PFC install such as motor swap, new injectors, pump, ignition, etc. If so, I'd go over those items thoroughly. Is the wiring harness in good condition?

Normal duty cycle for me at idle with 850 primaries is 3.7-4.7%. It will normally read in the teens while the car is cranking.

If you go to the ETC-Sensor Check screen on the Commander, do your voltages look normal on the sensors? Does clutch switch show engaged when cranking? I believe there's another light to show if the fuel pump has power.

If you have access to a diagnostic code checker, I found that it will still work with the PFC installed.

If you purchased your PFC from RP, I know Chris would probably be of help over the phone since he may have run across this problem before.

I got mine from RX7Store/Jason. I will get it hooked up to where commander will read and let you guys know what the sensor/sw. page says. Thanks
