Fuel Smell under boost

I've got a freshly rebuilt and street-ported motor and I'm just getting into tuning. At this point I've got a pretty good tune for where I am in my break-in schedule. I'll list my mods at the end. When I get into the boost (under 5 psi) I'm smelling fuel in the car. Generally this happens when AFR is low 11s or 10s. At first I was really worried that when my fuel pressure increases, it's causing a leak.

Because of this, I cranked up the fpr, jumpered the diag box and pressurized the fuel system to 60 psi while checking for leaks at all fittings with no leaks. At this point I didn't even smell any fuel leaking nor could I feel or see any leaking.

I put everything back together and I'm starting to flirt with 5 psi again and I'm starting to smell the fumes in the car when I'm boosting. Once again usually when the AFRs are rich.

My question is this: Is it normal to smell raw fuel in the car when running rich? If not where do you guys think I should look next?

I was thinking that maybe an injector was leaking, maybe the secondaries. I haven't figured out how to log when the secondaries come on but to be honest, it just occured to me as I am writing this.

Any of you guys ever experience anything like this before?

Mods:
Street Port
Sequential '99 spec twins
full exhaust w/o cats
Apexi PFC
850 primaries
1680 secondaries
kg parts fuel rails
Walbro 255 fuel pump
intake and hard pipes
PFS Medium Intercooler
HKS Twin Power
Aeromotive FPR
The list goes on and on but that should cover fuel, spark, air and turbos

Thanks for all the help you guys have already given me, most of which you'll never know.

Jeremy

Damn, another one of those experimental PFCs that creates gas out of thin air. They are not suppose to have been released yet. Big fubar by Apexi. Better ship it back to them.

I'm pretty sure I told it to squirt that much out. just wondering where you think it might be escaping.

When you tell it to run rich, can you usually smell it while driving down the road?

BTW, I'm using the timing map you posted in the yahoo group and my transitions on and off throttle are a lot better and my knock levels are a little lower too so thanks for that cewrx7r1.

First verify that there isn't an exhaust leak or a problem with hatch seal or some other thing that would let fumes in.

If you are running rich enough you can smell fuel with a cat installed.

Check to see if your atomization lines that connect to the LIM are correctly hooked up and not leaking.

I definitely will. I'm pulling the UIM to get to the primary rail tonight. I think that might have left out the insulators on the rail. I'll be checking everything connected to the block while I'm in there.

Since there weren't any under hood fuel leaks at 60 psi fuel pressure, maybe it is an exhaust leak in the engine compartment.

Rev the engine to 4000 rpms while squirting some oil into the intake. Look for smoke coming out around the turbos and exhaust.

Did you use OEM intake manifold gaskets?

Update: I pulled the primary rail and I was right, I didn't install the insulators on the rail. The boost was pushing air and fuel past the rail and I was able to smell it. I put the new insulators on there and the smell is gone.

Thanks guys, I appreciate your help, maybe my mistake will help someone down the road.
