Power FC fc-datalogit USB?
#3
I am trying to get passed this right now.
My laptop only has USB ports and no DB9 ports. I am trying to use a USB to DB9 serial port converter from Belkin and I am having no luck.
It may be port numbering problems, because I am not sure which # (1, 2, 3, etc.) my USB port is. Still trying to figure this out. It could also be a hardware problem with the USB to DB9 converter. When plugged in it states that it can not find the driver for it. Both of those I have not ruled out. Sounds to be the later of the two though.
I am about to pull out and take Linux off of my old school lap top with a DB9 port. It's just this laptop is slow, old and would be forced to run Win98 with the datalogit program only.
Any feedback or help on this top would be great for me too.
Thanks

They work. RadioShack has them.
To get the port number (usually 3 or 4) right click computer icon in your desktop or START menu if XP. Select the HARDWARE tab, click on DEVICE MANAGER and look for PORTS and expand/click on it.

Just registered and I am waiting the confirmation. But I guess from other threads, so are other people.
But, I can not find the link to down load USB drivers from the datalogit site. Does someone know or have the one mentioned in the thread above?I have the generic one from Belkin. What would the difference be?

It works!!! This thing is pretty cool.
I was sent a driver from a fellow forum member. I am not sure if I installed that one or the belkin driver. My mistake. Anyway, I uninstalled the driver and reinstalled it. I was then able to plug in the USB cable, and then open the datalogit program. After that I applied power to the PFC and hit the read button. BOOM!!! My setting came up. I am not sure if it was a driver problem or the sequence that you plug these things together. I think it was the order you have to bring these devices up. I searched on the forum and someone else had the same problem. For giggles I gave it a shot, and it worked.
Try booting the computer up with the USB serial cord attached. Or plug it after the computer boots. Then open the datalogit program and let it complain about not being able to open the com port (by the way verify that the com port setting is correct). Then power up the PFC. After that hit the read button and you should see your settings. Try this a few times. I still will get the message that the interface is not responding every now and then.

I am using an iogear USB-to-serial adapter and it works fine with Windows XP Professional. I don't think I manually installed any drivers -- I just plugged the adapter in and it found the right driver automatically (perhaps from the Internet, but it's been a while so I don't remember).
