Experience with Base Map

First a little background. My third gen sees about 2000 track miles a
season. It has been setup primarily for longevity and not max power. The
setup is as follows:

Boost set to max 9.5 on 1st turbo, 8.5 on second, J-spec downpipe, resonated
mid pipe, RB cat back, M2 cold air intake, stock IC, stock ecu, CWC dual oil
coolers, Koyo radiator, Evans coolant (0 pressure), aluminum copy of Mazda
AST, synthetic pre-mix added for track use (factory oil injection is
functional.

When this setup was tested on the dyno it showed AF ratios of between 11:1
up to around 5000 rpm and 10:1 above as the boost trailed off..

I would like to run about 10 lbs boost overall and have recently picked up a
used PFC. The previous owner of the PFC had a much different setup so the
maps that are loaded aren't going to be very useful, so I'll have to start
with the base maps that come with the PFC. I believe the ecu version I have
is 5.x.

I'm looking into the option of getting it tuned and realize this is the best
solution. The problem is no one that can do this is very close and since in
the next year or so I will probably upgrade the IC I really don't want to
have to get it tuned again. So my question is given the conservative 10 lbs
of boost are the base maps safe for extended track use without compromising
the life of the motor. If not, what kind of changes would need to be done
to the maps which might not maximize hp but give me a decent safety margin.

While you should be ok at 10 psi, I would run it on the dyno again and make sure you aren't getting too lean.

Don't worry about an IC throwing off the tune much, get it tuned now and inform the tuner you will be adding an IC.

If you want to be really safe, you should be running 100 octane at the track anyway. It's very expensive but worth the insurance IMO, especially on those hotter track days.

You might want to add some fuel since you're running a downpipe and resonated midpipe.

You might also consider making the two-hour drive to Columbus to have Jason at the RX7store dyno tune it. I don't look forward to making a three-hour trip up there in a few months but you gotta do what you gotta do!
