88 s4 wire ques.
i just bought myself a power fc with the banzai harness and all that good stuff. my question is what connectors/wires do i absolutely need to make the car run. map sensor,iat,02 sensor, coolant temp, trailing coil, and leading coil. the reason i ask is because i want to clean up the wiring inside the engine and get rid of all the connectors and unwanted parts i dont need so i can shave/tuck the harness a lil bit. any info would be appreciated!!

You don't need the 02 sensor, you will also need the TPS, injectors and crank pickup connectors and optionally OMP, idle speed control and knock sensor and a good engine earth.
That's just for the engine harness of course.

ok so tps, ect, tps, injectors, leading, trailing, knock. and idle speed, and map sensor. by idle speed i assum you mean the bac valve or the thermal thing on the back of the throttle body?

if your doing this on an s4 the engine harness can be shortened by about 4-5 feet. I just finished rewiring my entire harness for my engine and ran it up along the firewall to the back of the motor instead of out and up the strut tower like the stock setup. Just remember in part of the engine harness you will have your wiring for the wipers and cruise control if you have those.
The easiest way is to mark all the connectors you have right now hooked up with tape or something and write what they are. Lay everything out on a sheet of plywood or something (you will want a good 4x8 surface or more to work on) and start cutting all the old harness wrap off. there will be a lot of wires you can cut out, and some wires you will have to extend and connect to other areas. Every sensor shares common grounds plus 12v and 5v leads. Plus as your rewiring everything i replaced as many connectors as i could and also switched some generic connectors to weatherpack connectors ( tps, map, etc) and also ran dedicated 12v lines to the injectors (two injectors per 12v lead instead of all 4 on the same 20+ old wire)
i only kept the tps(converted weatherpack), map(gm 3 bar weatherpack), iat (triumph sensor), injectors (switched to ev-14 style with new harness), water temp ecu (new connector), water temp gauge(new connector), knock sensor(converted weatherpack), and the cruise and wiper harness.
wrapped everything in a self fusing silicone tape (-65f to 500f temps and insulates to 8000v) then wrapped that with a split mesh wiring cover then covered up any parts going by heat with some gold heat tape
