51 Degrees Ignition Timing
Just recently had my PowerFC installed all running good, howver after a run I check the max readings on my Commander and the car shows IGL & IGT at 51?
Is this too high, I dont know when this happens, however I presume it happens after I hit redline and change gear...Is 51 degrees bad for the motor or is this OK?
My highest Knock was 31 so that seems OK.
Can anyway point me in the right direction?
My current mods are:
96 FD
3" DP, Metallic Cat, 3" system and Magnaflow Muffler
rebuilt street port engine

I suggest that you look at every menu with the commander while also reading the manual. And at the same time practice making a change where ever posible so you learn how to do it. Be sure to write down what you change so you can change it back while you PLAY and LEARN.

So is 51 degrees OK or not?
Is it best I buy the Datalogit software and modify the Power FC that way??
Is there a good base map I can follow that would suit my mods and the 98 Octane Fuel I run?? Currently the car has a 15 AFR is this about right?

Is the 51 degrees in the vacuum or boost area of the map? That will answer that question.
15 AFR, where at: idle, cruise, low boost, or high boost? You need to give intelligent information.
Some maps are posted on various web sites for free, or you can buy one from here. Because you are not familiar with this car, I suggest you find a good turner down there and have them do your tuning. There are good tuners in NZ and AU.

I think I hit 51 after I backed off from high revs/boost level.
This amount only happens when I have pushed the car to the limit.
The car also backfires when Im decelarating from around the 2500rpm mark, other than that its pretty smooth. The cars boost is set at the two levels of 10 and 13 psi. I only use the 13psi very randomly, otherwise I always use 10psi.
The 15AFR was what the tuner told me, it seemed to be at full boost and across the rev range? I dont know, he just said and I saw the AFR gauge reading 15 and from what I have read 14.7 is minimum??
By the way there are No mountains in Western Australia and I live by the beach so not at all high above sea level!!

The 51 IGL can be seen on the IGL map and it only occurs in the very high revs at very high vacuum as when you get off the throttle at very high boost revs when the engine is de-accelerating or you are slow shifting after reving high.
Very very normal and safe but we use a max of 38.

15AFR at boost will BLOW the engine. On this forum there is a thread that started last week about AFRs. READ IT! You NEED to search on threads that discuss AFRs as you have no knowledge. Do it on this and the single turbo forums.

Thanks that has put some of my thoughts at ease, so is the backfiring caused by the high AFR or the Ignition Timing or is it normal for an FD with straight through 3" exhaust system??
I will do some more searchign tonight on AFR and backfiring and see what I can find out.
Thanks again for your feedback - much appreciated!!
