free bump and after thought...

In some discussion about the gauge in the 2nd gen tech section, Karack made a crack about turning the gauge sideways for easy physical reference of front and rear...I realize this may be a little late....but I thought it was a really neat idea.

Since you were able to get F and R printed as oppose to traditional L and R, would it be that much more of a deal to flip all the numbers/markings 90 degrees

Perhaps if there is ever a version 2.0 of the Pineapple exclusive dual EGT, this might be taken into consideration?

It may have been discussed already, but I thought it was a really neat thought.

That is up to you. If you need more time, the deposit is a good way to reserve your gauges at the GB price, but if you can pay in full, then you get your gauges faster.

Just a quick update. More orders are coming in, but since we are past the cut-off I won't be tallying them up as before. The GB is still open and will remain so, as long as the orders don't drop off. I will give a week or so notice before closing it down.

I have more gauges on the way, so the two orders I just recieved will be shipped out next week.

I have sourced a supply of colored LED backlights, if anyone is interested. I have some samples on the way and can order more if the demand is there. The color choices are pretty standard: white, blue, red, yellow, green and UV. Price will be under $10.

Howdy Blake,

I've ordered from you guys a lot, always a pleasure to do business. Unfortunatly I just now came across this GB.
How big are the probes? I'm wondering this for fitment in the manifold runners.

Which would be more practical for a turbo aplocation, the high temp one? or the lower temp one? Currently I have a e.g.t. guage on my car, and in the year or so I've had it on I havn't seen higher than 1600 F, and that was on a long twisty road with lots of hard driving. Average reading was 1200-1400 otherwise. With that setup I had the stock s4 turbo.

But shortly after I get home and can actually work on my car it will be getting a gt35r with a mani from www.turblown.net and tuning or about 400hp. So pending your suggestions, i'll be purchasing a guage.

Here is a link to the probe specs. http://hewittindustries.com/thermo.htm. We use the Inconel probes with the 90 degree tip.

While the lower range gauge would be fine, the higher range is more ideal, IMO. I always prefer a gauge to read closer to the middle of the scale. Not only does this reduce or eliminate the possibility of pegging the gauge, but the human eye is better at spotting a change relative to center. The high range gauge is also the only one with the "F" & "R" markings. While this isn't a big deal, it is a nice touch.

The new supply of EGT gauges came in today, so the following three orders were shipped.

I have one more complete kit in stock and two gauges without the wiring. More are on the way (again) but I may not have them until early next week.

The LED bulbs are here for colored backlighting. I have Red, Amber and Green. I can also get Blue, White and Ultraviolet (blacklight). I can sell them for $5 each.

where could the thermocouples be installed in a FD stock twin manifold? is it a very thought job? *interested*

For a turbo, you drill and tap the bottom of the exhaust manifold for the probes. The thread is 1/4 inch NTP, I believe. When I get a chance, I will make a photo tutorial for a 3rd gen stock manifold.

My experience with VDO gauges is that if you put a standard red skin on the (incandescent) bulb, it looks identical to stock. I put the same on my EGT gauge, but haven't powered it to check it out yet.

I just thought about my old probe placement.....they were after the tubo about 3 inches, so im sure that would contribute to the lower temps.

No problem. Not sure I understand the question about time for an order to process, though. We normally stock these gauges, but sometimes we have to re-order from the manufacturer. It would be nice to get the next batch just as the previous batch was exhausted, but that doesn't always happen. At least, the lead-time for getting more is a only a few days to a week. Is that what you were asking?

For the time being, the GB will continue. We are getting a respectable number of orders and as long as that pace continues, there's no reason to end it.

The VDO Vision series, although it has a black ring and not a chrome ring, is a very close match to stock in lighting. With the red (rubber?) cover for the bulb, the boost gauge is nearly an exact match for the stock backlighting and needle. Their water and oil temperature gauges are almost the same, but slightly redder because they are slightly brighter (still barely a noticeable difference really). fyi -- i think the VDO Vision Chrome rings are too thick to match the stock gauges IMO.

The same red cover on the small bulb that comes with the dual EGT is insufficient to light the center of the gauge. Also, because the needles are not internally lit, you probably could not read their position at night... ...so I'm thinking maybe a slightly brighter bulb or a colored LED?
