I was gonna upgrade my non-turbo fc into a turbo my doing the engine swap but someone told me that a sr20det engine is better. What do you guys think?

You can make just as much power out of a 13BT as you can with an SR20DET. The engine swap would be pointless, and much more difficult than swapping in a 13BT into your non-turbo RX-7.
It might sound like a 'trendy' idea, but that doesn't make it a good idea.

Non rotary engine in an RX = Weight distribution and total weight shot to hell, taking away the main advantage of the Wankel engine.
But I guess that doesn't matter if you're never gonna do a real race, ie, one with corners...

also, SR20's have been known to go 250,000 miles (with some mods) without a rebiuld. in all me years playing with rx7's, I've NEVER seen a 13bt last more then 175,000 (bone stock and babied all it's life)! mine only got to 110,000.

My bad :P
I didn't realize that the SR20DET weighed the same. I also realize that it's more reliable.
Better choice than a big block V8, I guess.

Hey, thats not true ive got one and it just died this summer at 253,XXX miles original motor no rebuild. I had a full racing beat exauhst, Dp, and colld air intake, and a few other custom mods. so do a little research before you start putting pistons over the rotary.

So far my 87' N/A has been super reliable (exept for the odd flooding now and then) and I had an 83' with over 200,000 still running when I sold it. The problem I've had is this, As soon as you put a little boost to a rotory the engine life is cut by 1/4 to 1/3. If you put alot of boost (15psi+) to one its life is shorten'd to one or perhaps two "seasons". If there is someone in this club that can prove they have a turbo'ed or supercharged 13b that puts out 300rwhp+ and has made it more then 50,000 miles ON BOOST, then I'll Take back EVERYTHING I've said.

50/50 - The Ls1 swap has shown to add about 60 lbs to the car, and made about a 51/49 weight distribution, hardly something that would be very noticeable even to experienced drivers. Weigh a 13B-T or 13B-REW with all acessories turbos etc then weigh and SR20DET (iron block, turbo) and see what the weight differences is.
13B-T Reliability, my 93 RX-7 had over 75,000 miles, drag raced and autocross quite a bit since the rebuild putting out 300-350rwhp the whole time and I sold it with the motor showing no signs of going, all motors that take too much boost or are run hard will go quicker than a well maintained naturally aspirated motor. Pistons and rotaries are both susceptible to overheating, over boosting, poor tuning, etc.
How many people have put a big block V8 in an RX-7? Not many that I know, and I am willing to bet they could care less about the cornering ability otherwise they would have chosen a different engine, some people enjoy different things.
