CA RB20DET, SR20DET Opinion

Fist off, I know, I know.. a RX-7 isn't a RX-7 without a Rotary. But Creating a Car around you with your likes and interests make the perfect dream car . I know there are going to be Not sooo nice comments, but please keep then to a min or not at all this is just a General question of Interest.

I am currectnly in the middle of making Custom Mount Kits for the RB20DET Swap. SR20DET Swap for the FC3 .. Before I finish my First set i just wanted to Gauge the interest on who would be interested if i decided to produce them.... Let me know ... thanks...

If you get the RB20's done within the next week for a reasonable price, I will buy. I'm lifting my RB into my car to start mocking up mounts tomorrow.

it would be a interesting option... keep us posted and i would like to see some pictures of your mounts and of how it makes the engine sit in the engine bay (also would you be making trans mounts?)

on a side note Mazissan! sounds kinda cool if you say it right...

ive thought about dropping an rb in an fc, i love straight six's. but the fact of the matter, after getting custom driveshaft, tranny mounts, clutch master, and all other tidbits for about the same money, could have a tre' rotor instead....too each there own, it comes down to subjective things like sound, power delivery, rarity... rb20 would be sick, good gas mileage =D

I am Currently working on the SR20DET mounts. and the RB20DET is next (And since there is only a little bit difference in the RB25 Mounts, and I gonna mock those up as well).

rotary84autox - "it would be a interesting option... keep us posted and i would like to see some pictures of your mounts and of how it makes the engine sit in the engine bay (also would you be making trans mounts?)

on a side note Mazissan! sounds kinda cool if you say it right..."

I will put pictures on of the Finish Product as well as How it sits and looks with all lines up. Yes I will be including a Transmission mount.

The Kit will include : Engine Mounts, Transmission Mounts, P/S Mount (I want to keep the Stock P/S so there is no Swap outs and no loss of P/S), A/C Mount (Same as P/S info)

Now I found a way to do the driveline I am gonna checkup on that. If its a good to go shot I will add it into the Kit. As I did the Pricing (if I were to go ahead with this) Its Cheaper then a 20b ...

But Don't get me wrong i like the Rotary's but I think ever owner has a vision to there car and a "Budget" to work with. With this kit they will be able to build a nice car with more Engine Swap Options and maybe better budget. (Some of Us do not have DEEP pockets.. I think my pants are Pocketless.. HAHA!)

Side Note" the SR20DET Swap Kit can be Used with the Following Engines; KA24E, KA24DE, CA18DET

So that gives people a wider option.

If I were to Complete this and Decide to sell it, I am look for probley around 900.00 to 1100.00 Depends if I am gonna make different Packages where you buy what you want or need.

Thanks for Being Interested and we will see Pictures soon on here.

the mounts aren't something to be worried about, the oil pan however is quite and issue. what have you guys done to make the oil pan a rear sump to accomudate the front steer crosmember in the fc?

the SR20 is a better motor than the RB20.

RB20's sound nice and all, but the SR20 is a very nice motor. Smaller package, Lighter (aluminum block, and smaller), etc.. the RB20 is an economy motor.

RB26, however....

+1

The steering rack HAS to be moved for an RB to fit in an FC and still have the factory hood close. No ifs, ands, or buts - either move the rack or fab up a tubular subframe. It simply sits too high for the motor to clear the hood. I chose to move the rack - cut off the mounts from the subframe, and welded them onto the front of the subframe. Gave me an extra 3" to bring the motor down, and allowed the hood to close. Also had to extend the steering shaft. I am current;y working on a mounting solution. The passenger side is a piece of cake - the driver side not so much. The factory mount for the RB is perfectly in line with the steering shaft, and comes outward very far with the rubber isolator attached. I'm planning to remove the isolator, and build a mount coming straight up from the bottom of the subframe. I should have enough room by removing the isolator, but I may have to modify the mount on the motor. Only time will tell. I started removing the head off of the motor today so I can access the mounts easier when I start fabbing them.

Also, the rear sump RB oil pan is a must. You can purchase it online as well as the pickup somewhere - I'll have to look over on NICOClub for it.

That's all the info I have on an RB => FC swap so far, it is being (scarcely) documented in my thread with pictures.

The RB20DET is the 2.0L Straight six from the R32 GT-S variants.

The engine is anemic, gutless stock, and does not have much "potential". Hell if you want that....at least try to swap in a Toyota 1g-gte (2.0L 24 Valve I-6 Twin Turbo). At least it's twin turbo instead of a 2.0L I-6 Single turbo that is from an engine series that is infamous for oiling/oil pump issues.

If you want an RB series you should swap in at least an RB25DET NEO or RB25DET.

RB26DETT is very difficult, and you need to use an R33 GTS25-T 5 speed transmission to make it work. Not to mention custom driveshafts, and all the other junk involved with swapping an RB in it.

you have to make custom driveshafts no matter what swap...and for the tranny...you may be lucky and be able to use the stock tranny mounts.......you can do the t5 and 700r4 from a chevy and still use the stock tranny mounts/placement...whares the t56 you need custom mounts

If you're running stock management, the RB20DET is a MAF, injectors, turbo, and a tune away from 400hp.

If you want to go higher, build a '25 bottom end and swap it in, and then the sky is the limit.

They are far from "not having much potential" and have advantages of their own.
