questions-vg30dett(90-95) into s4 TII

hey guys i was just wandering if anybody has done this swap or know of anybody who has. i talked to the guys at grannys speed shop and they told me that the only thing i have to do with their kit to swap in the engine is trim the brace metal under the hood to clear the distributor, get custom exhaust manifold, and use a custom intake. i dont know if he meant intake manifold or air intake, all he said was that the 300zx turbo used a monster intake. i need to know if anybody makes an exhaust manifold that will work for the turbos and if he meant intake manifold, where can i get one. maybe a sheet metal intake will be fine. i will be undergoing this project in about a month( if i can get the right info and parts) and will gladly post my progress.

300ZX Intakes are huge they have 2 TB's and basically look like two 3-runner IM's

Yes, the z32 intake plenum is a large cross-ram style. But there is no distributor, they come with individual coil packs for each plug. I think the main problem would be with the drivetrain. The bell housing on the 300zx tranny is quite large. www.sgpracing.com
Look around, you might see some pictures that could help you out.

well, the kit makes the engine sit lower in the bay so everything clears, and yeah i got mixed up with the earlier vg motors about the distributor....this might be a dumb question but on a bunch of cars, including 300z's i see some things sticking out of the motors that look like the opening of a trumpet, it looks like one per piston. also it looks like it replaces the intake manifold....does anybody know what im talking about? maybe i could use those instead? if anybody asks why is he doing a piston swap when he has a TII. its that i hate paying high *** prices for parts that have to be special ordered, high labor. but the rotary engine will always have my heart.

yeah its pretty heavy but it will be easier and cheaper to get the hp that i want.....i want about 400 and they come stock with over 300.....my TII will need a rebuild soon and i will need to do a bunch of expensive stuff to the motor to get a safe 400 hp out of it, like hardened stationary gears, rotary aviation apex seals, 3rd gen side springs, water jacket mod and large street port. then i would have to turn the boost way up, which probably means going stand alone. The VG30de-tt on the other hand is a very stout engine and 400 hp can easily be achieved with a cold air intake, straight pipe exhaust, and boost controller bc i have a friend who has a TT 3oozx and he has a little over 400hp on 11psi with these few mods. i have a cold air intake, exhaust, and boost controller on my 7 and would be lucky to get 270 out of it at about 10 psi.

Uh, are we talking about to the wheels hp?

Getting a VG30 to do 400 at the wheels takes a LOT of money - FMIC, *turbos*.
By the time you spend all the money, the 13B will be ripping it to shreds.

I've seen a Z32 with almost everything bolt on - exhaust, chip'd, intake, boost contoller - and he only managed to do 290hp at the wheels.
He was VERY disappointed!

400hp at the wheels is not a very lofty goal.
The 13BT can do it pretty easily (but it will take some cash).

Looking at a VG30 swap is kinda ridiculous.

If anything look seriously at a domestic V8 swap - it's cheaper, and parts are plentiful.
No turbos and waaaay better relibility.
