yes, i have always thought a twin turbo 1uz would be nice (a local guy has one swapped into his mkiii supra!the only reason i brought up the 1G is because of the physical dimensions (actually to be completely honest i dont know what the dimensions are compared to a 1j, i just assumed that the 1L displacement difference would also yeald a dimensional difference)

a 1jz is a 2.5 L so only a .5L displacement difference, the 2j/7m are 3.0

yea i kno, i was just using the 1j for reference since this is the motor the thread is abt, but in my head i was thinking of a 2j for some reason. either way, the dimensions of both the jz motors are very similar (i believe the 2j is a bit taller due to the longer stroke??) and i believe the 7m is of similar size. the main dimension i was concerned with as far as a 1G goes is length tho, since both the jz motors and the 7m are VERY long.

anyways, more on topic: sketch, or anyone who has done this swap, if you dont mind me asking, aby how much $$ did it take to complete this swap?? thanks

No, I'm building it in Kaneohe, I'm just doing some training here, leaving here soon. Most of the work I'm doing at the base auto hobby shop on MCB. they have all of the essentials.

Well now i'm over 6500 invested; but that is for everything...... just to do the swap, it ran me $1980 for motor,r154 trans, and uncut ecu w/ingniter. then 1550 for the complete swap kit from tech2motors sports, mounts, shifter extension, aluminum drive shaft, and wiring service.

im pretty sure the only part sketch bought from tech2 is the shifter extension, he did the engine/tranny mounts & wiring hrness extension himself but im sure he'll chime in soon to give you better details. i do know he saved a ton over the ridiculous prices tech2 is charging

ya, the 2j is too tall for the fc. id rather have a 1.5jz personally

Yes, everything was from scratch other than the shifter extension. Even that is avoidable if you use a transmission with the factory longer extension. It can be found on some jdm r154s and some w58 transmissions like the sc300 or mkiv supra 5 speed.

If you can cut, weld and solder you can to the swap with out a kit. How well it turns out will be a direct result of your effort and patience.

I could build another 1jz FC for about 3500 including the car. But that's probably 100 hours of labor!

VS 5500-6000 using tech2 kit and a lot less labor.

yeah i wish i were that patient. but i spent alot of time with other project (Evo9Mr) then i was kinda speed hungry after i sold it so I wanted and easy solution, plus i miss being sideways I really dont have too much welding experience. sure would be nice though.

Man this just keeps getting more and more inticing haha. I just got my rebuilt 13b back but honestly its my 3rd motor in this car so far, not interested in doing another 350hp one without meth inj haha. Fc shells are pretty cheaply and regularly available here and my cousins friend has been talking abt selling his 1j mkiii supra. Maybe I can get him to part it out haha?

Also, mazdajzx7: did you have to make any mods even with the tech2 kit?? How do you rate the kit over all? I've been trying to read the forums on the tech2 site but it seems that no one is really talking over there. Any info would be great since I would be using the kit (I live in an small place in the city so I have no garage let alone access to welders and such without having a shop do them) thanks ahead of time

ill try and snap some today, im not sure if sketch took any of the mounts during the build, none of his build threads showed the cross member iirc. just from looking at them the mounts look pretty damn solid, but the tech 2 kit may drop the motor lower which would be better, but im not sure.

the tech 2 kit does drop the engine as low as it can and very close to the firewall. but you will need to change hoods or cut it. Overall the kit is very clean, cnc cut, clean welds and appears to be very solid but i guess we'll find out during my tuning session, with all the mods I will be easily in the 700's, but to answer your question no i didnt not need to mod their kit. actually, really easy to do. drive shaft was a bit of a pain, appeared to be to long at first, but it was just a rookies mistake.

1980 motor, trans,ecu,igniter+1550 for swap kit, dont get too excited but the machine shop that i had the motor acid washed and overhauled, said he would replicated the mounts and tranny mount for a fraction of that price

I sure will, I can see when is the earliest that we could get them fab'd. Maybe just a set or two, for anyone that is interested. I say gimme 2 weeks, I leave Japan next Monday. Today i was at a local drift event, and super clean Cressida crushed all the competition, There were a few Rx7's only 1 fc with a Cosmo, this sucker was screaming around the corners. Oh i know i did the swap but that rotory sound will forever have a special place in my heart. So much so the I'm considering putting in my JetDrive boat!Loudest boat out on the sandbar in Kbay!

Hood spacers should make the front of the hood clear but cutting the hood skeleton in the spots where the front of the valve cover "COULD" hit is an easy as hell task. Probably the easiest part of the swap besides cranking it up.

I'm wondering how people did the swap WITHOUT using the tech2 shifter extension.

its pretty much impossible to do it without the extension, unless you can fab one yourself
