sideways placed engine conversion?

sideways placed engine conversion?
I own a matra murena, which is a small french sportscar. It is comparable with a fiat X1/9. The engine is placed sideways in the back of the car. I also own a 1984 mazda rx-7 12A. I thought it would be nice to have the mazda engine converted in the matra.
Now i try to find some info about rotary engine conversions on a sideways placed engine like placed in frontwheeldriven cars. I know there is a big difficulty to make space for the drive-shaft which runs pass the engine. I know there is a fiat Xi/9 with a rotary engine.
Are there more conversions done?

Should make a nice project. As for drive shafts: all you need to make sure is that the engine is mounted with the driveshafts at the non-manifold side. But it won't be easy.
If you know that Fiat conversion owner or links to contact him, you'd better try to find out how it was done.
Citroën made a transverse engined rotary car (GS Birotor), so it's sure possible. The main issue will be finding the right gearbox.

The driveshaft can only be at the manifold side. Just like the fiat. So the driveshaft comes very very close (or against) the exhaust.
The only thing i found of the fiat was an article in a magazine. No links
