Ya sorry, I am here in the states and i have looked quite a bit for some. I have a 77 sp with the square type. But mine are kinda deteriorated on the inside and i wanted newer ones. Mine look fine from the outside but you know, always looking for better stuff. They are impossible to find, even for us here. Tell me if you find some though.

I had an extra one but threw it in with the SP when I sold it. There is a slim chance I could get if from the current owner. Probably very slim though.

thought for the day...

you know John, I am a little suprised that some enterprising individual hasn't started making reproductions of the various Savanna tail lights - the aftermarket prices are obscene and surely it must be feasible to make them from scratch. I'm a little suprised the Sydney lebs havn't done it... the repro badges are mostly available. Rare spares do all sorts of bits for fords and holdens.... perhaps there is a market.... maybe if a couple of workshops got together.... (I'm just trying to plant a seed of a thought here... )

A couple of places sell them, though I don't know who actually makes them.
Selectmaz (click here) sell them.
and so do
Jap Performance (click... here)

I think Pac Performance (click here) sell them as well, not certain though.

John from RXengineering who started this thread might even have them!

Smeagol- He is not refferring to the sp ones, he is referrring to the jap. ones that we never saw over here. I have a friend that has a set of the hexagonal ones but he wont sell or if he did they would be like a lot of money more than would be feesible.

Sorry i read the original post again, Ok lets all get on the same page here. I have a 77 sp with RECTANGULAR light in it the standard SP ones not round but rectangle. Now i believe there were the hexagonigal ones that cam in other 3's over in japan. Which ones are people looking for? Both are impossible to find but we need to keep them streight.

Just To Clarify U.S. RX3s came with round taillights 72-75, the Hezagonal Ones were on 76-78 and are very rare. The rectangular SP taillights came on the special option SP model in the states. By the way I have a pair in excellent shape that I mihgt be willing to part with.

Making aftermarket lights would be cost prohibitive unless you could find the orginal dies used to make these in the injection molding process.

rx3 tail lights

These r the lights in mine, it's actually an 808, but I converted it to rotary. It has an '83 engine and tranny. Had to modify the tranny to move the shifter back up so as not to have to cut the floor.

I had a 76 RX3 with those hexagonal lights. I took them out and rotated between a set of SP taillights and Round ones. I sold them with the car though.
Is the rareness of them what makes them attractive to others?

rxeng = Did you find your taillights? I have a nice set of round ones from a 1972 RX3.

David 526= I have a nice set of round taillights that you might be interested in. So that rxeng could get the hexagon type.

Let me know maybe we can work something out.

Thanks
Randy

rxtasy3, are those rectangular lights factopry for RX-3s in america?

because they are what the low spec 1.3L 4 cylinder came out with standard over here.

also the SP lights I believe are the exact same light that we aussies got in the very last 808 (4 cyl) version over here.

that sounds like a good idea to get a database of some kind for all the RX taillights from around the globe, and all the various models they were fiotted to, we might be surprised.

tailights

I went through my cross ref book on all piston and rotary engines from 1971-1978 including all cars and trucks, and here are the match's- Mazda 808 72-73 matched with RX3 72-73. Mazda 808 74-77 matched with RX3 74-76. This is all I could find for tailight match's.

Nice pics, I think the second set is pretty rare. There is another set that may be rarer but not very pretty on the 77-78 US version of the RX3 SP.
