Rx3 rear end strength?

how strong is a non-sp Rx3 rear end? i'm planing on a 13bt swap with a 60-1 turbo upgrade. i don't plan on thrashing on the car too much. but, i do like driving fast from time to time. i do hope on streetporting the motor eventually. what do you guys think? should i get a ford rear-end? i would like to keep it original.

Hello Bosozo9

Sorry didnt reply to the pm!

I got a mechanical speedometer 3 3/8 gauges. I havent mess with it since I got my other car. I put the speedo on the left side and the cable wont reach, I believe if you put it on the right side it will fit just right but I havent got to that yet.!

On the rear end,
if you do a research you will see that all depends on how much HP you want put on the ground! Also its better doing right the first time and in the long run you will save money and down time.

After doing my research I end up getting a Ford 8.8 for my RX-808, needs to be shorten and ....... .. but again, I been playing with my other car!

Andres

They are pretty tough, but heavy shock loads will kill it. It really depends on how hard you want to launch the car from a standstill. A few good hard launches with slicks and a 300hp engine and you will be looking for another rear end but if you are using street tires and aren't hitting it too hard from a standstill, it's likely to last a long time.

Thumbs up RX3 Rearend

If your planning on running slicks just run a lot of air in them so they spin a little bit instead of snapping your axles. Once you put a slick on a RX3 it will always hook, but then you'll be shopping for replacement axles. I think out of all the cars I tested at the track 75% of them were RX3's on M/T 24.5 X 13 X 8 slicks. Once we figured out that we could never drop the air below 17 psi, and the axles would last us a while.

I ran 20psi on M/T slicks on stretchies with 4.88 gears for weekend fun. Rev'd the motor til it stops pulling.

I agree with Albert on the PSI. I tried running below 15psi with a long burn out. Tires got too sticky and almost crashed at LACR.
