Here are a few pics of the new installed turbo beanie and some of the car in the parking lot at the office...Now just need to take care of all the scratches, dings and all around general neglect of the paint for the past 1.5 years...

I also got my exhaust valve working remotely so now I push a button on a "fob" and the exhaust opens fully or shuts off completely which makes the car almost as quiet as stock.

On another note, i have an oil leak and I cannot determine the source. So far I have been able to determine that it only occurs when the engine is running and that it drips near the back of the engine. I have reduced it to two possible scenarios, the oil pan is not fully sealed on the back area or my rear retainer/seal for the eccentric is allowing oil to seep through. Im hoping its the first and not the latter since an oil pan change is super easy on this car...We'll see

I wish I could still use mine, I gave it up to use the stock omp with the external oil feed... Guess I have to go back to the old crappy BAC unfortunately.

Small Update...

I've been driving the car for the past week and a half and so far it has gone 155miles. I began using Klotz Benol premix (E85) as supplemental lubrication to the OMP. So far I got the car to where it drives ok and I just want to work out small kinks here and there regarding little leaks and such.

The injectors I've been using so far are as follows:

Primaries: 2 X Modified OEM RX-8 2ndaries (supposed to flow about 650-720cc but unknown)

Secondary 1's: 2 X Modified OEM RX-8 primaries (supposed to flow about 650-720cc but unknown)

Secondary 2's: 2 X 1680cc Low Impedance

Before, I didn't have any issues with a similar combination but now it seems as though the primaries are not enough to handle the required PUMP1 and PUMP2 values with this engine that are supposed to compensate for tapping on the throttle or quick throttle changes. Being as though I knew this setup is not enough anyways I had ordered some 2000cc High Impedance units from Five-O that I will install in the primary location. We'll see how it goes when I install them.

Cheers!

I'm finally starting to tune the upper end and I all can say is wow...its starting to become a fast animal...:)

Will post vids when I finally have time to put it on the dyno, in the meanwhile, its country road tuning for me...;)

Quick update...Car has been driving for about 1200 miles and is pretty much tuned at 14-15psi. I'm happy to have it back and it feels good even at this low boost...we will see when I turn it up to 20 or so.

On another note, a brake upgrade was always in the plans and of course I always like to do things the hard way so I decided to move forward with a corvette Z06 brake upgrade...14.0" X 1.26" Rotors and huge 6 piston calipers...

Cheers!

Hello Peeps, its been a while.

I finally got around to relocating the ECU and Microtech up to the front behind the bumper where it is away from turbo heat. As a bonus its really cleans up the engine bay to have this out of there. Made a neat little aluminum box for housing all this stuff up front...50+ wires stretched later...my face speaks for itself...

Cheers!

I don't have a Turbonetics Horn but I do have an HKS Purple Horn that fits onto a 4" elbow. Since I drive it on the street I use a filter most of the time. At the track or shows, I will use the Horn...

Not much...I've been driving the car every day and have it fairly tuned at 20psi (10.4-11.0 AFR) and it feels strong. I'm going to speculate that its in the 500-550whp range.

I will be switching to a Haltech Sprint RE to allow better tuning during throttle transition (probably will do this during winter). The Microtech's simplistic "Pump" settings just aren't cutting it and the car is street driven all the time so flat spots and hesitations can get annoying fast.

Finally, I will be doing a four corner brake job (its very overdue) and I ended up going a different route for the front so the Z-06 front brakes (calipers, rotors, pads etc) w the adapter brackets I made will be up for sale. Not interested in making any money, just want to get even for what I paid for the components so if you know anyone interested, LMK.

Cheers!

No Dyno but its fairly well tuned. Don't want to speculate...all I can say is its at 20psi and about 10.8-11.2AFR so it goes :)

I will probably switch ECU's over the winter and after the new one gets tuned I will take it to the Dyno and post it on here.

Cheers!

do you still have that valve? would you be willing to sale it?

Dont hate im a women RX8 driver and i deff. know more than you give credit i have taken a half a dozen renesis motors apart and they are crap compared to the REW or RE the series 2 got alot better then series 1 but series 1 is what i have and it was a very poor design on mazdas part i felt they couldve done better with the design and shouldve kept the twin turbos !

Very good point on the average rx8 driver. There is a lot of women rx8 drivers around my area and they wouldn't even know that their car was rotary powered. Its irritating that Mazda took a major step backwards from rew to the reni in being able to make reliable power. Did you part out the reni setup?

Rotary chick I remember u wanting to do a swap, what happened?

rtrychk08 10-21-12 11:05 AM

I bought a 2nd gen and put the REW in there way easier and less money just keeping the 8 for daily driving might port it a bit but other than that im just leaving it alone.

Slight update...car is away for winter and the long list of "leftover" To Do's is now in session.

Before putting it away I added LED's to the bumper, they look really good and do a good job of replacing the OME fog lights I lost in the bumper switch. They look blurry in the pics but in person you can really see the individual "dots" like on the Audi's.

More updates coming soon!

Chris

pretty much the path i chose to follow with my Rx-8 as well, though i won't lie. i have been tempted every so often to put my REW in it. i have resisted with minimal effort, however if it were a 20B that i had included in my cache of rotaries, i would have caved a LONG time ago! :D

It feels awesome...you have to watch it when you get on the brakes. However, these arent the Z06 brakes, these are custom made 15" 8 piston units. I ended up switching to these when i realized I could make it happen very reasonably. I also upgraded the rear to 13" rotors relocating the stock caliper. It feels really good under braking.

On another note, i will be getting rid of the Z06 front kit so if anypne wants to work on adapting it to their car LMK.

Cheers!

Quick update.

It became clear that my initial "idle bleed valve" for controlling working in conjunction with the OEM throttle wasn't adequate so I decided to adapt the BAC that came with my engine to the RX-8 throttle so that I could use the ECU to control idle properly.

here are some pics of what I did.

Cheers!

Its actually Spray paint...VHT Red Wrinkle Plus. The stuff is easy to work with, resistant to engine temps and to top it off its pretty resilient/durable when it comes to dings and scratches, I would say its about halfway as regular engine spray paint and powder coat in terms of strength. I did it myself and it came out really good.

Hehe...that is what it ended up as. Originally it was where I threaded my manual "idle bypass" connector. Since I am no longer using that, rather than plugging it, now I can check for leaks. :)
