Project Update Black Betty is Done!
Well I have not updated the original thread in quite sometime, but in case anyone is wondering, I did finally get this beast going.
The original build thread can be found here. https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...ht=black+betty
Here is my favorite pic of the car from Sevenstock. Alvaro took some badass pictures.
I finished the HID conversion the night before. Just in time for sevenstock.

The wheels are REAL Work VS XX 17 X 7.5 and 17 X .8.5
Offset is -4 in front and +18 in the back with spacers that effectively brings them down to a 0 Offset. 3 inch lip in back 2.5 in front.
I totally suck at the pictures. I will try and get some better shots of the wheels to post up.

Engine is a 13BRE.
I am running the A-spec 500R turbo with custom manifold exhaust and downpipe done by Renes motorspots.
Rene, also did all the custom piping, intercooler and custom radiator work.

A couple of the interior shots. I wanted to make it as low key and factory original looking as possible. And also, none of the ricey stuff.
I was able to mount the boost controller where the ashtray used to be. Wideband is just below, not too obtrusive. I mounted a defi water and boost guage on my steering column and that is pretty much it. The Haltech and Defi link, are mounted directly under the glove compartment. Also, can you spot the power mirror switch in the center console?

No need to hate. We all share the same fascination, or more acurately sickness, with these cars. Piston or otherwise, It's about what I have learned, and all the friendships I have made along the way. Plus it actually freakin runs!!! That is the most amazing part. lol.

For those that are too lazy to click on the original build link. The coilover suspension is a custom one off built by www.iscracing.net
They are Bilsteins, and were adapted from what I believe is either a scirocco or rabbit up front, and a second gen in the rear. Camber caster plates are a universal model (CCP5) made by www.ground-control.com
The owner of ISC is a grumpy bastard, lol..but I convinced him to do a set for me. If you need a set just order the first gen setup for the front, and second gen for the back, then have someone do the spindle mods for you locally. For the rears you will need to adapt your original tops to the second gen coilover and bolt on. That is it!
Front brakes are from www.theracingstore.com They are from Aerospace Engineering. 12 diameter and 4 piston calipers. This particular set is not advertised by Tony anymore. I believe I am the only person who actually had them made for a Mazda. The cool thing about the brakes he sells is you can get them in any lug pattern. I went 5X114.3 all around so these worked out great. They also tuck very nicely! allowing for more wheel and an agressive offset.

Here is the best pic I have of the rear end.
Hoopers did the work. I do not recommend them though, they took almost 5.5 months to complete this one.
It is an 8.8 out of a 1997 explorer. 1996 and up from any explorer is really a great conversion rear end to consider. They are 5x114.3, have posi rear ends (trac loc). Big bearing 31 spline axles are standard, as are 11inch disc brakes. Ring gear is either a 3.93 or 4.11 if you get lucky.
I had new axles made, and put a better cover on the center chunk. Posi was also rebuilt, and housing was shortened.

David, I love your car. Awesome job. Time to start winning car shows now, or you can show up at the dragstip once in awhile too.
