Talking The Project

I dont think this has ever been done and i have searched the net countlessly from forum to forum and have not found a trace of something like this....i hope its not for a reason


The car is Nissan Skyline R31!
after many vs matches between motor i finally nailed it down to rotary
the final match was 13b -re vs 1JZ - gte

the rotary won, over the fact, i need it light, dont want a nose heavy car, need it to rev and i know rotarys better!

i have chosen the 13b -re motor from the Eunos Cosmo but if i cannot get it then what should i go for net 13b - t series4 or series 5?

my gearbox will be either toyota cressida, they all over the place here, or the Rx7 box, i think it will probably be from the FC...i must check with my importers

can anybody see any forseeable problems in this conversion? i have been "on" this forum reading post after post after thread for months now to the early hours of the morning and i must say many guys on this forum have BRILLIANT knowledge and are very tech and mech minded!! so help from the rotary geniuses on the forum wuold be much appreciated!!

omg u cant put a rotary in a skyline thats like putting a v8 in a rx7

that is a VERY bad analogie
i would say its more like putting a HYABUSA motor in a MK1!

ehhh thats true i guess to each his own.

but whats the weight on the r31? a rotary motor dosent have alot of torque

i guess go for it and see what u can do they put a 20b 3 rotor in a nissan 350z and that thing was pretty quick

The R31 is have weighs 1180kg odd A full car

i have stripped the car COMPLETELY and i mean COMPLETELY
plus
boot
bonet
quater panels
and doors will be fibreglass
and all windows except front perspex.

that thing weighs as much as a MK1 golf now!!!!!!!!!!

im sure torque figures will be just fine!?

dont have the money for a 20b...... and im not wanting to make a 9 second machine

it is a drift baby only wanting RELIABLE 250kw - 300kw max

can anybody see any forseeable problems in this conversion?

hehe Thanks bud, much appreciated!! yeah the guys dwon here in SA also seem to think it will turn out tight !!

going to grab myself a copy of DIY - RE 13b soon too!! will be nice to add my current knowledge to this step by step DVD which i heard is amazing!! going to start my fibreglass work soon!!

i would say 20b but since you say you dont want to spend that much gop with the 13b-re
at the least go with a 13brew instead of just the 13bt
use an fc tranny should be good up to about 400whp. thats what my friend kept blowing his tranny at was abbout 450hp.

please make a it a PP port so itll sound hella sexy.

because of course im a rotorhead i mean im on here. but im also a nissan fanatic and im sorry but i dont want to see another rotary in another nissan car. its old. just like i dont want to see a 7 with an rb or sr in it.

RB25,26 were the obvious choices!! but in my country they are HECTICLY overpriced!! also what i like about the rotary the car will be LIGHT and i am going for a light car, hence all the fibreglass parts...

i am too a HUGE nissan fan...the R34 is my number 1 car since i have been a youngster and will probably remain that forever, but i love the whole skyline series and the 200sx!!!!!!! but in general i LOVE jap cars, Nissan, Mazda, toyota MItsubishi, etc!!!!!!!

i am also a fan of the rotary and after along time thinkig about this i want to go this way!!

and so far no one has made any comments on forseeable problems so looking good!!

iwith the tranny, i should be able to get toyta 21R boxes here at a very good price so it will proably be that..cuase they bullet proof too...

if one cannot get his hands on a 13b -re

go with the s5....but if s4 are more common over there then the s5 just go that route

s5 and s4 parts pretty interchangeable hey? apparently the nice thing about series 4 though are the low compression rotors? are they really such a big deal?
what are power figures looking like with a s5 with s5 rotors as oppoed a s5 with s4 rotors? wiill the only gain be its ability for higher boost? but besides i wouldnt boost a 13b - t hectically as im still wanting superb reliability?

are you kidding we dont get that car or motor here at all. an they arent that expensive to import. no more than a rotary or sr would be.

obviously it your car and you can do as you please and i cant stop you. ill give you credit where it is due but i dont agree with it. and that my opinion that im entitled to

on average 13b - t series 4 here goes for $733 USD
13b - re - $866 USD

and RB25DET $1200

in dollars that may not seem much, thats because you earn in dollars
convert that to rands...and thats a CRAP LOAD!!!!!!!! for the average South African car ethusiast, especially a student.

what are you looking for? just go with the low compression best of choice...But you know what on my build and i have the thread in my sig. im using high compression rotors...it has been done many of times with great excellent results...
