which one is an RX2 Engine Mount

So I picked this engine mount from a forum member but it look so much different than the one I have. He said it came off a Twin dizzy RX2 but so is mine. Which is the right one or are they both for RX2..........

The one on top is the one that came with my RX2, the bottom one is the one he sent me.....

RX2 Engine Mount

Looks like the one on top is definitely RX2 and the one on the bottom looks to be RX3 or RX4 which could also be used on an RX2!!!

where i come from , rx2 twin dizzy engines are originally mounted by the front engine plate
( not the timing cover )
though the TD timing cover is provided with mount holes on later TD 12a engines
in oz the rx2 doesnt get the front timing cover mount plate till it goes to the SD engine

rx3 and rx4 twin dizzies will use the front plate , and the single formed unit above looks like the rx4 TD mount,, but also the same as my s4 rx2 front plate

the other one is a universal rx2/3/4 plate , and i think displayed back to front

my guess is that your rx2 infact has a rx4 TD engine installed

No special mounts needed..I use fb motor mounts and work great.second gen mounts are a little taller and not something i would use.just my .02 cents.

not sure
,,, certainly s1/2 rx2 combination banana crossmember has the mounting pads further back ( than s3/4 )
and IIRC must use the brackets that fit to the front plate to line up correctly without mods

its quite possible your current ( rx4 ) TD lacks the mounts on the front plate on the manifold side
,, and so must be mounted via timing cover like SD engines

now,, the last rx2 ( s2 ) i built a 12a SD for used the universal RHD rx2/3/4 plate
and it has the folded diagonal sections pointing forwards
( ie,, the face bolted to the engine is the flat side ,, and the RHD bracket offsets it opposite to the unit you have pictured )

currently waiting for him to message me back to see if he has indeed a s3 SD engine mount ,, or if the pads have been redrilled to take a front plate instead of side brackets

Here the thing I am building to cars. One is going to have a 12a and the other a 13b. Which mount would be better for either one. The original mount or the rx3/rx4 mount? Or are they the same.

they should be the same,, perhaps a minor shift in offset
for 13b you slot the pad 10 mm,, and the plate slot 10 mm ,, and you have a 20mm adjust ,, either bracket should acommodate

Thanks. My only concern is that one is shorter than the other. Wouldn't that be an issue?

you will find both fit,, one just sits lower due to the slots

got the PM back from my mate
,, who tells us he has fitted the s3 rx2 crossmember so he can use the front timing cover mount with an SD engine
he says there is no way a SD front timing cover bracket will line up with a genuine side mount s1/2 TD rx2 banana xmember

he also tells that he has used the folded and welded generic rx2/3/4 mount pictured
( and i use the other style on my s4 rx2 )

FL RX2 Engine Mount

First of all, what tranny are you using? I ask because if your using SA 79-80 with a 12A everything should fall in place including the shifter. If your using FB 81-85 you can slot the tranny mount and tranny bracket, 1" front and 1" back to give you some slide clearance for the engine mount, but shifter would also need to be relocated by flipping, cutting, re drilling, and all that fun stuff. You have to know how to do this right, and the same for FC 86-91, and well FD is the experimental stage, where you have to custom make stuff!!! GLW the built and put some pictures so we help if needed....

Yeah am using a 79 tranny for the 12a setup so I know everything will fall into place. Just was wondering because i haven't seen a engine mount like that. I called one my friends that has an RX3 and his engine mount is different. Am guessing this one is a Aussie cross member. For the 13b am going to move the tranny forward the 4" needed but don't have an idea how to make the custom tranny mount.

Cool RX2 Engine Mount

So are you going to be using the 79 trans with the 13B also? If yes, then you can notch the hole on the trans bracket and trans mount if needed, so you can make some slide clearance. I've even custom made an RX2 engine mount bracket, by cutting open both RX2 engine mount holes, cutting 2 inches from an RX7 engine mount, and welded the extra 2 inches on each engine mount ear of the RX2 engine mount, been using for years, then you don't really have to mess with the trans mount or bracket. Trust me, with as many years I have been messing with RX2's, I've been there and done that! Hope these pictures help!!!

It's not that hard for the turbo trans crossmember.what i did is got the fc trans mount and cut the center section that bolts up to the trans off and then just welded some brackets to it.

This picture is of a rx3 with turbo trans..rx2 I did was similar to this.

The bottom mount will put your motor/box too close to one side. I tried it and the gearbox was fouling on the trans tunnel. Use the o.g twin dizzy mount. My 2c

Please explain..... I know that it will sit lower but how is it going to be to one side? I lined up the holesin the mount and they r the same.

The holes in the middle are exactly the same on both but if you were to line those holes up in the pic the mounts that go on the cross member wouldn't. Measure from each set of bolt holes to the mounting holes on the bottom I bet the rx2 is more even.
