Old, poor RX-2
Today, wondering through an old junk yard I came across a Mazda RX-2. Popped the hood and only found the model number S122A, couldn't find a vin to figure out the year (didn't know it was a 2 until I looked it up via google). It is the twin dizzie and both dizzies are still there. No wheels on it so brake/suspension stuff probably frozen up with rust. Some of the outer parts and maybe some of the interior parts are still good. Thinking of taking the engine out and getting the rotors to put on the shelf as displays. Looks like it is the four speed. Most badges seem to be on it still. Didn't get too good of a look as I was being rushed but if anyone is interested in parts for their project, let me know and next time I visit there I'll look to see if it has it. May even snap a couple of pictures and post so tha y'all can see the quality of the old 2. Vines have grown up in the engine compartment. Doors still worked as I popped them right open like any normal car door and popped the hood so I could look underneath since whoever last scavenged from it shut the hood all the way.
Does anyone know if they used the same carb from this car on the later 1st gen 7's? Also were the american 2's ported as large as the aussie 2's? Doing a search on google brought up 130HP on the Aussie 2's because of larger porting of previous series.

take what you can from it!!! fenders, trunk lid, hood, emblems, bumpers, dash. windows (glass).
everything is worth money on that car. if you are not going to restore it. you can make some nice change on parting it out.
its just like the old saying goes:
invest in precious metals, save an old mazda

alien_rx7, today I drove up to Farmington to try to find that car, just for fun. But I didn't know that Farmington has 1,000 junk yards! I asked some guys at Autozone which yards around there let you walk around...they told me a couple to go to, but they weren't the right ones. Oh well, 10 bucks in gas wasted...I'll drive up there again if you wanna meet me someplace. I'd like to see it.

Hmmm....well Austin Martin doesn't exist...I think you're thinking of Aston Martin. Neither one of those or an Austin Healey would be in a junk yard (I hope), unless the rednecks are truly clueless. Finding one of those would be like one of those stories where the little old lady sells the classic jaguar in her garage for $100 becuase she doesn't know what it is....
I think you found an old Austin Metro (just Austin), if it said 1.8 on it. This was after Austin had been absorbed by the BMC conglomerate...along with Wolsley, MG, Riley, Triumph, and others...
Way off topic now, sorry.

Well if it's a twin dizzy it's 71-73, apart from that I dunno...
You'd be surprised what you find in junkyards. We went to a local yard looking for intake elbows and other goodies and we found a Model T frame and SOMETHING with a flathead straight-8. Also a mostly complete 929 with a straight body (buried up past the rockers in mud though) just begging for a 13B-RE or 20B-REW swap... American Cosmo!

the bits actually worth money are things like the rear qtr badges - here in Aust the rears had "Capella" badges... the "Mazda RX2" badges weren't available... so down here they'd easily go for between $50 and $100 US in top condition! (possibly more).
Twin dizzy you say, so it has round tail lights - grab them and all the rear garnish(es) - grab the grill and badges as the piston engine versions were different. The instrument binacle - the piston version didn't have a tacho. I'd grab the clock just in case it worked (only one of mine that ever worked ~ from my 3 rx2's ~ I sourced from a 4th car!) THe glovebox cover and badge are hard to replace... also the front guards badges (behind fr wheels). Steering wheel horn button has rotor logo...
The rotors should have 6mm seals.. will look odd on a shelf... maybe make a good business card holder!
No hubcaps lying around...? they would have had rotor logos too.
THe twin dizzy engines had specific boxes and are not suitable for swapping with later model versions.
Is it 2 or 4 door... the coupes had rare boot lid badges, and hard to replace chrome window trims,
Oh, and make great looking drag cars.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to get back out there to the boneyard yet. The owner must have started doing research into the car and is now dicking around with me on getting access to it again. I'll keep trying but I may just stop pursuing (sp?) trying to get anything from this particular yard shortly. Sorry y'all

Maybe you should at least tell him to sell the parts on Ebay, so he can find buyers (and at least someone can benefit from the parts.)
