everyone's idea of "restored" varies. i'd like to see pics of them though for their selling price. honestly if they are done very nicely i would consider that a deal and they can only really appreciate in value.
restoration costs alone usually are close to that price. anyone can take a spray gun to a scrubbed down frame but stripping it to a whole shell, blasting it, treating the bare metal, painting it, rebuilding the engine, redoing the electrical connections, having the basically like it had just rolled off the assembly plant costs no less than $25k in work. keep in mind most of those japanese cars have underlying rust issues because there is no avoiding the salt water on that island.
Leno's at least had the benefit of being shipped overseas and resided somewhat in an easier environment for most of it's life.
people scoff at the asking price of some of these restored cars, not really understanding that in the end most of them really aren't making a profit at all for the amount of work involved.
the biggest problem with these cars is finding the right buyer, there just isn't that many Jay Lenos out there with pocketfuls of money willing to buy oddity cars that most shops won't touch let alone repair if anything begins to fail. keep in mind the car is 50 years old, it has historic value, it is rare, add in the cost of restoration and i certainly don't think $100k is out the window for a perfect example. at $30k they would be giving it away, $50k is a little bit more realistic but one that lives in a bubble with basically all new parts rarely driven, $100k isn't unreasonable.
value is up to the buyer, i'd be surprised if those cars didn't sell for the asking price unless they had underlying issues that you can't see in photos.

Heh, this is crazy but I found my old Geocities page on the Spider I had:
http://www.reocities.com/MotorCity/s...69/spider.html
Keep in mind this is from '99. I still get emails to this day asking for Spider parts or if the car is for sale, even though it says right on the main page that it was traded.
I should try to track it down...
