New RX-7 at Tokyo Auto Show
Motortrend just published an article on their website saying the next RX-7 was part of a Tokyo preview in a Japanese magazine, including an illustration. Read it here.
It could just be another Nagare concept. It has 2 doors, which is good. I can't wait to find out for sure.

Someone finally replied! I thought this was reasonably significant news. I'm not too sure about the looks either, but it's just an illustration of a concept car. I want to see more angles.

It's probably just another fake. It doesn't seem like a time to be introducing a new RX7, given the current economic situation. But you never know, he's to hoping Mazda surprises us. I actually think the design has some potential once it evolves a little.

Well whatever it is, it's supposed to be at Tokyo this year. I'm not sure how reliable Best Car Magazine is, but someone at Motor Trend thought it was worth reporting.

yea, i dont really buy it either since there have been so many fake-outs the past few years. honestly, i think that mazda still has plenty of room to grow with the rx-8 before moving onto an rx-9/rx-7 comeback. either way, even if mazda is owning alot of racing (rx-8s are doing awesome in GT events, and mazda3 and 6 are doing great too), nissan has their FM platform and not to mention the new GTR, plus if the rumored "toyo-baru" / new supra ever happens than toyota will be back in the game, mazda will have to have something better up its sleave than an rx-8 with a redone front facia....
IF this, or any other rotary concept for that matter, is for real, i wish they would keep it a little simpler yet refined in the looks dept. im not big on the "organic" look

I believe the 16X wont be coming out for at least 2+ more years. By the time the new Supra comes out Mazda better have something up its sleeve to compete with the GTR and Supra. (just like how it was in the mid 90's)

I have something for you....a lot more than a T4/T3 Hybrid

nice dude. is there any truth to the rumor of the mazdaspeed bolt-on turbo kit for rx-8s. i heard from a friend whos very into current automotive industry news (mazda and toyota specifically) that they have been developing one for a few years but cant get anything but low boost from it due to the high compression rotors of the renesis. either way, i think that that 16X with the direct injection and larger displacement is gonna be awesome, just wish they could keep peripheal exhaust ports and lower compression rotors (9.0:1 or less) and throw a GT35R on it!! haha

Compression is your friend if you tune it properly because it gives you some bottom end, spools the turbo faster, and allows higher numbers with less boost...
I even developed apex seals to handle boost on the Renesis and they are sold through my company.
search for Esmeril Racing.online and you will find us.

hell yes, PT 71s are huge. but then again, thats relatively low boost for that turbo rite? i think most piston guys (MKIV supra ppl is what i have seen running that turbo) run like 30+! then again, i dont kno specifics on those bmws. and on that E85 you have what, the 3 liter?? still VERY impressive numbers.
either way, of course high compression is good, but i mean from a manufacture's standpoint, its trouble some. whats one of the most common mods on turbo cars? boost controller. so many ppl buy a factory turbo car, put an mbc on it, push twice the boost the car was configured to handle. from mazda's standpoint i think that they have to assume that most owners will abuse the car more than properly mod it, in which case lower compression rotors (lower compared to renesis rotors which are what, 10.5:1??) will go farther in keeping the motor alive. altho this is not optimal from a performance standpoint, its smarter and more logical from a sales standpoint. im not saying that high compression turbo cars cant been done and done beuatifully, im saying that a manufacturer has to anticipate that the majority of there clients are not gonna take neccessary steps to prevent engine failure when upgrading/ pushing the car.
then again, i guess the people who are gonna be buying the next gen rotary sports car are gonna be FC owner either haha

My car is not a BMW...its and RX-8 and it has the Renesis motor it came with with a set of my own apex seals and dowel pinned....I just did a half-bridge of it but the 500 was before that porting.
The PT71 does get to 30 psi on pistons...but that is because I dont have to, I have 500+whp with 20psi, why go to 30?

chris, im sorry, you said E85 as in gasoline, i thought i read a "on my E85", implying that it was a BMW E85 (Z4), thats why i was asking about the boost since i kno supra guys (also a 3L inline 6 just like the z4) use the same turbos @ 30+psi. i got you now.

back to the actual topic, i think that even if they did keep the 16X N/A (which i assume they will?) im still really looking forward to it. i mean come on, 1.6L direct injected rotary? aluminum side housings? better torque and cooling? that solves (or at least addresses) two of the big complaints on rotaries. i just wish they put that in a more FD-esque chasis...

Have you ever driven an RX-8? It seems like you have not with all your FD love going on. The RX-8 is perfection from Mazda, they did an amazing job on that car. IMO, the RX-8 is better than the FD is in numerous ways, and if the 16x gets plopped into an RX-8, it will be 10x better than it is now with the 13B-MSP, and 20x better than any stock FD.

haha, yes, i have driven in and driven a few rx-8's and i love them!! im talking about body styling exclusively tho. i would actually love to see a 16X rx-8, but if they are gonna make a whole new car (rx-9?) like we are talking about, id like to see a little more retro styling just as someone else stated before me. this is just a personal taste, not that the styling of the rx-8 is bad (love the fenders, hate the weird back doors) just that i personally think that it would be cool to have a throw back model. not like how the new chalenger is pretty much the old one, but you kno, some subtle nods would be nice. like how the current miata subtlely has some rx-8 body styling. i really like rx-8 styling too, just dont like the concept shown in post one. thats what i meant when i said "organic" styling.
also, SE3P vs FD?? really, i think we all kno who wins that fight. thats not to say that the rx-8 is a bad car, again, look at its sucees in grand-am rolex gt series. its a great platform.

I personally think everything is perfect in the RX-8, I just wish it had about 2-3 more inches of leg room in the FRONT, I don't care about the back. I really enjoyed the RX-8's when I rode shotgun or drove them myself. Very fun car, and handles like it's on rails.
I personally think the RX-8 is a better car than the FD in numerous ways. But the aftermarket for the FD3S is larger than the FE3S (it's not SE3P). So of course, people are going to like the FD more than the RX-8. That happens though, give the RX-8 a few more years for some R&D thrown into the aftermarket aspect, and people will ask what an FD is.
But not saying I don't like the FD, I love it, but I love the 8 alot more.
