My new 73 Rx2!

My new 73 Rx2!
After an extremely long hunt over many years I finally own a running driving Rx2 that isnt years and years of restoration away of being anything near a car. My previous Rx2 was a 72 and was considered by most to be un-savable. I took on the project and made some headway. But when the chance came up to get this 73 Rx2, I had to jump on it... Garage space was needed, and i sold the basket case 72.
Here are a few shots of my new 73!
Few pictures taken by the previous owner:
And few shots of it getting loaded on the truck in South Dakota headed for Orlando!

What I have been told has been done to the car:
There's an estimated 65k on the chassis. The car was originally an auto and converted to manual.
Motor is a street ported 12a from an 83 1st gen with a 44idf Italian made Weber. On a Rotary engineering intake manifold. The header looks like the Rotary engineering header as well, but not to sure... The exhaust has 3 glass packs and a cutout after the first one. The transmission comes from an 84 GSL-SE. The rear end is from an 83 RX-7 GSL. So LSD is there as well as disc breaks. Suspension is Ground Control coilover setup with KYB GR2's. The fronts are are from a 1st gen with the spacers from ReSpeed. The rears are front struts from a NA Miata. Also has a rear roll bar/half cage with harness in both seats. A new aftermarket thick aluminum radiator. And other little things like gauges, extended wheel studs in the rear, duck butt wing, ect...
It also came with 3 sets of wheels, 2 are Panasport wheels and the 3rd set is a black mesh style wheel. All 13x7.
The body is pretty clean for its age from the small amount of look over I have done so far. I am suspecting there is damage and bondo in a few areas, but I havnt had a chance to really check yet. Rust is very minimal. I was also told the car has been garage kept for the last 25 years.I kinda like the fender flares, but I still love the original body lines as well. I am undecided if i am going to keep them when I go to paint the car... NO I'm not keeping the fade...lol
All in all.... Great car and a great find. Needs work and might have some hidden work needed as well, but hey... its damn near 40 years old!
Expect a build thread soon on this one... Just have to figure out what I am doing with it first.

I remember seeing that car advertised out on the web. Nice find and nice for you to have a starting point that runs and drives!
(I actually dusted off my car, bent up the cage and fit the left rear quarter on it, look for updates soon!)

Stop it, you're killing me As a joke I was over at the neighbor's shop and I asked if my hood was still 'back there'... I had broken the cardinal rule of telling a body man I'm not in a hurry last year. I did finish my '59 Bugeye though and built a Spec Miata. Right now I have a '65 Turner Mk4 that I've done a bunch of cage work and now I have to paint it.
Why finish one project when you can almost finish 3?

Yupp, never really liked the factory bumpers. I have a set of new old stock duck butt wing and front lip from the 70's. That are going on as well. I think with that and the flares, the car would look pretty mean.
I planned to switch to a 15" wheel but the car dosnt look bad with these 13's. Plus they are so damn light! The mesh 13's would look nice as well when the car is painted...

I'm pretty set on doing a streetable PP 12a for this car. I have a set of 51 IDA's I might use, or try and trade these 44idf's for a 48 side draft (or bigger) for the longer runners... That mixed with a GSLSE tranny that's in it with the Kia 4.78 gears would make for a fun ride.
