Thanks I will keep it in mind. If the glc comes apart again for any reason I will put more effort into it. For now I am happy with the results as the engine bay looks a ton cleaner than it did!

Carb issue or ign timing????

Ok so here is what I've got. I got the car out of the garage so I could run it and bleed the cooling system and check vitals etc...but I cant seem to keep it running. When I first started it up it turns out the carb base bolts were lose. When I turned off the engine the secondaries were also flooded bad. Anyway I tightened the carb properly and set fuel pressure to 3.5 on the regulator. The car will start and run if I pump the gas to put fuel in the carb before cranking, but as soon as that fuel runs out it stalls. Fuel pressure is good and you can see the fuel in the bowel sight glasses. When I do get it running and attempt to keep it running by working the throttle there is some backfire both out the exhaust and through the intake. I should add that I had someone hold the choke closed manually on the carb and it stayed running a little while longer. The car will start every time without any drama or long cranks so I was gonna rule out a timing issue, but the back firing has me second guessing.

Any suggestions...?

Well I got the car sorted today...turned out the timing was was out a tooth or so. I restabbed the distributor, backed the mixture screw out 1.25 turns from all the way in, and put ign 12v to enrichment solenoid on carb (thanks again for that Joe) and started like it was 75 degrees in Cali! Throttle response is excellent too. Tune in tomorrow and I should be able to get the brake master installed and brakes bled, as well as the clutch bled. Then it is time for a loud *** first drive right to the muffler shop...lol!

Yeah me too...I don't think my neighbors were going to put up much longer with unmuffled backfires at 9am...lol. Thanks again for your help. I'll try to make it this Sunday but the GLC will be home till its registered and insured...(hopefully at the end of april!)

Well its been a while since my last update. The car is off jackstands and runs and drives on its own.

There is still ALOT to do... namely get the brakes bled out properly, lower the rear suspension to match the front and install new shocks, paint and install the grill, install an electric fan and switch, as well as go through the carb and figure out the vaccuum advance. I am also interested in making the secondaries mechanical on the carb. I'll save my questions on that for another post.

Currently I am working on fabbing up an exhaust. I opted to do it myself to try to save a few bucks

Its mostly mocked up and out of the car for final welding. I dont know how to weld, but I have a friend or two that do, so this piece will be dropped off tonight to cash in a favor. While test fitted to the car I started it up and was very pleased with the tone. I am using 2" piping into a cherry bomb glass pack and flowmaster muffler, mostly because I already had the pieces in the garage.

Car is insured and registered. got my brakes bled out good...still waiting for my exhaust to be ready so I can pick it up and install. Then I'll figure out which way I will run the tail pipe and tips. Most of the interior is back together. Still have to work out the vaccuum advance and make the carb sec mechanical. Then its on to some gauges to keep an eye on things. Mechanical gauges ok???

Well it has been a long time coming, but I finally got most of my exhaust back. The rest I had to mock up using clamps. First chance I get I will get to the exhaust shop to remove the mock up clamps and get those joints welded. I would take it back to my friend, but I want to drive this SOONER than LATER. Here are some pics of how it came out...

Had to use clamps in spots where I wasn't sure...will be going to meineke soon to fix this...

Here is how the tips came out...

Its not too loud. The stock manifold takes most of the sting out of the exhaust. I'll post a sound clip up later on today.

Took the car out for a bit of a drive tonight. Started to smell heavy gas around 25 min into it. Turns out the return line ruptured. I guess I have some work to do on my days off. Also the exhaust sound good. There might be a bit of an exhaust leak at the manifold but could not verify. I didn't want to run the car with fuel leaking. Also, the pipes scrape my driveway pretty bad so I will have to figure a way to rectify. Her are a couple of videos of how it sounds. The video is poor, but the sound is clear.

Tonight was the first real drive...but I have a few things to still do. Namely repair the ruptured fuel retun line, either hook up my vacuum advance or make my secondaries mechanical and raise my exhaust a bit. I also have some suspension issues to resolve. I am trying to be ready for the Orchard Beach meet on May 22nd.

Got my return line repaired, hooked up the vacuum advance and my good friend Lenny took me back to basics with a good old fashioned timing light lesson. The end result was a real kick in the pants and a third gear chirp as well as a nice low idle.

also shows that I need to do some more work on the exhaust as the muffler sits a bit too low...(scrapes going into driveway)

Took the car to work today...Brooklyn to East Elmhurst Queens...about a 22 mile run each way. Car ran great. Kept up pretty good in traffic too considering its a 4speed...lol. I am desperate to get more ride height in the front. I am also in need of some neg camber, but I know RE-Speed has some RX3 camber plates to help me there.

With regard to my ride height problem...will the RESpeed coil over perch help me with this situation??? I am currently running series 2 rx7 front suspension and with GLC/RX3 strut tops.

Here is a pic of the car I took at work today

some updates

The weather has been so nice so I decided to make some improvements to the GLC. Went from mechanical fan to dual electric. During a "spirited" drive however, one of my fans decided to dismount itself...lol. Those little zip tie kits are not gonna make it. Gonna get some sheet metal and try my hand at making a dual mount/shroud so this doesn't happen again.

Also tried out some SA Waffles. I think they look the part pretty good. I swapped those in as well as replaced my rear shocks and chopped a coil off the rear springs to even out the ride height (some what)

I still have some gauges that I have to hook up as well as a tach.
