I dont know about a 3rd gen engine, but I have seen several second gen turbo2 swaps. I would figure about a few grand for the whole swap process. Just do a search on google or yahoo about it and you are bound to find a couple

Cool

Call me between 9am - 5pm @ (916) 852-0306 Ed from
Check Point Engineering Inc. We have a '91 miata with 13Bt, producing only 6-10lbs of boost...

Anyways if you're serious about doing conversion, call me... or if you have questions call me... I will set you up with the best technician money can buy!

As do I. Hope you don't mind me posting these, redline53. Looks great, but wasn't it a pricey conversion?

I have a '93 FD drive train. I'd like to put it into a older Miata with a blown motor. What year should I be looking for?? Once I get the Miata, about what would it cost for you to do the conversion(ballpark)??

Check out www.rotarymaita.com

This is a friend of mine and the car is really quick as it sits with the old wore out 13B carbed engine. He has the supercharger and a rebuilt turboII engine going in it this winter. Even though this is a race only car the same things could be done for a street car. If it would work on a newer Miata with a twin turbo, I don't know.

Here's our miata. '91 Turbo II motor, t18 turbo's through turbonetics, greddy front mount intercooler, 750 injectors all around, running only 10lbs of boost. B.E.T. 12.3 on street tires.

You're looking at starting around $10,000.00. Here are just three things that needs to be modified. Your subframe, transmission, and of course your mounts. Well have fun.

That turbo miata with a FMIC!!! I cant even emagine how tight that would be to drive. Miata handlin is already great but with that kinda of power. Cool thread!

Adding big power to a Miata ruins the car... they're not as fun to drive unless you have only 116hp.

What the hell? Don't listen to this guy...

I know that driving an UNDERPOWERED car sucks, my little 1.5L protege only pushed 92 measly hp, and I WISH I had more (the 1.8L's get 122, another engine option my car came with)

The miata was meant to be a BALANCED ROADSTER, not a mustang killer...the concept of the MX-5 is fun

What does the price include? Is that turn key?

How much would it cost if I dropped of my fd3s and miata?

Thanks.

Ok, the MX-5 comes with a heavy cast iron engine, and for those with 6-speeds, a very heavy transmission.

I dont think that swapping a 13B into it will do much to ruin the balance. The problem with swapping over the 13B into a Miata is that it has to sit very low, and back into the firewall. This is not from experience, but what I have read. Add into that the expense, and most people decide not to do it. This is the popular opinion I received from www.miata.net when I asked the same question.

Could not agree more, Miata is about balance and handling and FUN, with over 200HP on wheel, it will be hard just to keep up with NA Miatas in solo2 events.

I dunno, for a nice light sporty car, a powerful engine takes away the fun. You start to worry too much about how inadequate the brakes now are, or how there really isn't enough tire for something so powerful, and you can't extract 100% from the car on public roads anymore. The car either turns dangerous, or turns into a racecar with limits so high that you can't explore them without borrowing a race track. And I dunno about you, but I don't take the race track to get to the store

Now, on the other hand... the Miata is a well balanced package. It has just enough power for its grip and braking, and vice-versa and the other way round. It does everything right. Start adding more on to that and it moves away from being a "fun" car and turns into a "serious" car.

Cool

Is it safe to say "let's have FUN in a SERIOUS car(miata)" or "let's get SERIOUS in a FUN car". hmmm... that would be one hell of a drive, I know 'cause we built one.
