Haha, I actually thought the Gumpert looked alright. Nowhere NEAR as gorgeous as the Furai, but still...horrible name though.

What. It looks nothing like an F1 car. It might look like a Le Mans car.
Now THIS is a street legal F1 car.

the furai is f*ckin sick! I hope they bring it into production, or at least something similar. A new Rx-7 is due also.

You realize that would be a six figure $$$,$$$ (or more) production vehicle.

Based on the Courage Racing chassis, 20B Naturally Aspirated 20B putting out 400+bhp, and the most amazing looks I have ever seen on ANY car. I would've put that car at $99,999.00. Oh, and $.99. I forgot that.

To be completely honest i don't want another rx7, sure it'd be cool but i think it would take away from its legacy. I think mazda should focus on the rx8 because i still think there is a lot of untapped potential there, and eventually bring out the rx9

However if they did release a new 7 you can bet your *** I'd be first in line to get declined for a loan for one!

Just the chassis is more than 6 figures.....

Can't wait for Top Gear to be back in the fall, they need to get an Ultima GTR on there and stop being wimps.

I forgot which part it is in, but the whole episode is entertaining.

Here's all the other episodes.

Not to stray from the topic but in my opinion if done right, the new 7 would take nothing from it's legacy. I also think we need a new 7. The 8 as everyone knows (except those few stupid ignorant morons that infuriate me) is a completely different animal. If we move on to a 9, the 7 may be lost a bit in history as some of the others. There is no need for a 9 IMO. Bring a worthy 7, and improve the 8.

A lot of people thought bringing the "compromise" 2nd gen FC was destroying the legacy of the pure and simple original 7. I beg to differ !!!! I looove 2nd gens.
What actually destroyed the legacy of the Rx-7 was the FD! (uh-oh, puts on mega flamesuit...). Think about it, before the 3rd gen, the Rx-7 was affordable and simple to fix and SOLD WELL. Now the world is full of people who couldn't afford one or weren't special enough to end up with one or just didn't have the courage to deal with one. To this day when virtually any spoiled teen can get one many would rather talk **** about it than to take a gamble. When a car sells in huge numbers it becomes popular and it's flaws become familiar and accepted!

Wow, major emotional post there from the Torque South...

DISCLAIMER: I am absolutely obsessed with FDs, and have sacrificed just about everything important in my life to always keep, drive and race one. Anyone that knows me a little can vouch that people like Phil (aicrotary2), myself, and many of you are crusaders for the cause of keeping the 3rd gen and it's respect alive. So if you disagree with what I said above please understand that I do not hate FDs and have the bruises to prove it...

FD wasn't affordable? Guess that depends on your tax bracket.
My R1 wasn't $67k, it was $40k... I think it was right around the same price of the ZR-1 Vette at the time.

I completely disagree with you. Completely two different cars that just happen to have rotary engines. How many factory aluminum suspension components did the FC come with? I wont even bother with interior, styling, handling, etc..

Hmmm... maybe I misspoke (writ? )
The FD is clearly the superior of the FC. And I think my head is too big for the FB (both of them lol), although I totalled one 15 years ago. If I had to drive any FC for the rest of my life though, I'd be skraight you know what I'm saying? Seriously.

Since I am a bit drunk I'll tell a short story. Once upon a time in the South there was a rusty overheating FC with over 100k miles on it. With under $1000 worth of mods, he ran 12.9 @106 and for a little while was undefeated in the "hood". I always thought those things looked magnificent!

Well the 1st gen was what, 7k? 2nd gen was around 16k? 3rd gen was around 35k? Even with inflation, the third gen was much more expensive.

I just can't seem to shut the **** up for just a little bit already but...

Hwnd, an early '90s ZR-1 Vette is one of my handful dream cars, I am pretty sure I couldn't afford a new one back then, or now.

Cool thread

*IMO* I do not think the FD was or currently over priced. Taking in the `total package` I dont know where I could get the styling, handling, etc etc for the same price in '93/'94;

Would have been much nicer (maybe lasted longer in USA) should they have come with a 20B package

I agree with you that for the car, the third gen RX-7 was well worth the money. However compared to previously models, that were quite a bit cheaper, the FD more or less took away from the "affordable" sports car that the RX-7 was, which if I'm interpreting Torque South's posts correctly, is what he meant. We're talking in terms relative to the RX-7 line, not against the performance of the car.

Thats what I figured too but I think my mindset (buying new) was "....gotta pay to play and this will get me some `play`"; Yeah, real nerdy

Someone did get one around the track that Top Gear uses, and it was about 6secs quicker than the Konigseegggggg thingy - but it isn't being recognised as a valid lap time because the Stig/Top Gear didn't drive it.

Apparently the Furai had a broken clutch - not the engine - and there is a rumour it will be back in the next series - hope so - be good to see what that thing can do against some serious competition.
