Master Cylinder Upgrade

Okay I have recently upgraded to 12" discs up front and 11" discs out back. Obviously alot of braking power compared to the stock RX2. I need to find a suitable upgrade for the Master Cylinder. Any suggestions?

For size reference, I need at least 15/16, 1" would be better.

I was thinking maybe an FD MC would work?

Anyone have any experience or advice they can offer?

FD may not work as the brake lines need to go on each side (left and right side). It may not clear the strut tower ====>>>>I dont RECOMMEND a BFH solution.

I used a late model Chrysler MC on mine. It is the areospace 2 piston on the front and wilwood 4 piston out back. That is the MC most pro stock type cars use.

Was it straight bolt on, or did you need an adapter plate? what year and model did you use?

Com'on, more details!

Dammit man, do i have to do all the work for you . I made an adapter out of a piece of 3/4 aluminum, i bolted it to where the booster originally went.

I will look and see if i can find the exact part # i used.

I am assuming I can use it with a booster no problem. And thanks for doing all the work for me.

Take a closer look at the pic. It looks like the lines are coming out on the same side as the shock tower. Already a close fit without that issue. Also, I talked to Tony, and he did not recommend this MC for the swap I was doing.

A lot of us FD guys upped to the 929 master cylinder, and both ports face away from shock tower, and size requirements should be what your looking for
1" bore also, some more pics in the link.

This is the MC I wanted to use, but I was concerned about the adaptability. In any event, I picked up 1 for a good price, so I will give it a go. Hopefully, I can get it to work without too much trouble.

Hey Jesus,

How did this work out? I want to do something similar on my RX-2's. I'm getting tired of the remote reservoir leaking all the time.

thanks,
Mike

Don't know about the RX2, but this is the MC I used for my RX3.

I have the areospace 4 piston brakes upfront and RX7 disks on the back.

I could not find a MC to work with a booster in the small space for the RX3.

This MC is for a late 70's ford 4 wheel disk non-power brake application. The bore is 1 1/16 inch. Picked it up from Lordco. Wish I could tell you the specifc car, I'd have to dig through my box of recipts to find the Lordco part#.

I had to make an addapter plate to match the 3 bolt pattern on the firewall to the 2 bolt pattern on the MC, and modify the push rod to match up to the brake pedal.

I have not run this set up so I'm still hoping it will work ok, but with all the brakes I have at the wheels it should be just fine!

This truck was not available in the US, and unfortunately the lines are on the wrong side. It will hit the strut tower.

Can you get us a part number or the car it came of off? It looks like an easy retrofit.

Just use a mazda GLC RWD or a FB MC. Its that simple. I have tried each one with no issues. they both work well in my RX-3's with rear disk brake conversion and FB front brakes.

The FB MC does work. It is what I am currently using. But with big discs front and back, a 1" or 1 1/16" would have a little better pedal action. The FB is only 15/16 I believe.

Is the GLC MC bigger, wacky? If so, what years are the same thread pitch, 77-79? Hmm, according to rockauto they're both 13/16" bore for 79 RX7 & GLC so maybe they're the same part.

I always thought the 81-85 FBs had the finer thread pitch so they wouldn't directly swap in. I guess you could always change/flare the ends to the correct pitch but is there any real benefit? I think those are 13/16" bore also.

Mike
