Latest Project Periphial port Motorbike

This is my latest project it is a honda mb100 frame with a sachs km3 single rotor 110cc lawnmower engine which I have periphial ported, I just got it started for the first time yesterday which was a relief as the standard ducati ignition coil the engines come with was dicking me around on my first attempts to start it so once I threw that over my shoulder it started straight away no worrys at all, It still needs a good tune as it has the standard mb100 carb on it which is 3 times the size of the standard km3 carb but probably still to small for the engine mods I have done, so I will have a look at changing that further down the track, so apart from that it seemed to run ok for a first untuned start have a look at its first start on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWsy8WW_OWk
Still got alot of work to do on it before its ready to run properly, I have to make one more engine mount paint the frame join the engine and gearbox together which will take me 4-5 hours of work the gearbox has been modified to suit the rotary and is pretty much ready to go, Im going to make a cafe race style back end and seat for the bike and I have to make some fearings up for the front but I havent decided quite where Im going with that yet, Ill keep updateing this when progress has been made, might be a while though its taken me 2 months to get this far!

Yep they sure are, they have been shortened turned around and turned upside down in an attempt to change the riding position, will probably be changed eventually, they just look totally gay if they are put in there original position,

Wow. Where did you find that engine and how did you get the rotor housing looking so good? Cermet?

I got this particular engine from a work mate who had it on a gold dredge but had given up on it due to the fact he could never get it started but I put that down to the ducati ignition coil,
The rotorhousing has been ported useing just a die grinder and files, the new port is made out of belzona, this housing was done a bit rough just to see if it would work, I will do a new housing for it soon which I will make up an insert for and do it properly,

Interesting.

I meant the sealing surface, not the ports. The surface looks like new mazda housings. Is it a new rotor housing or is it resurfaced?

All of the km3 engines I have stripped have been like that, I guess it is probably due to the early failure of the ignition coil, people would get frustrated and blame the fault on the rotary engine itself and shelf the engine with only a few hours running.

Well Ive had a ride or two on the bike now, started out with the standard 1.18mm jet in the carb and wouldnt take throttle under load so I put a 1.3mm jet in it and you can now ride it but its no where near right, still needs a lot of work, still Its running will look at turbo charging it in the next couple of months, Im sure that will pose a headache or two!

Check it out running here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NcA87zCFBhw

Well I thought it was time I posted an update on this project, I have decided not to go with my original blow though carb setup and have opted for a megasquirt ecu instead, so the bike will now be fuel injected, I have bought and built and tested a megasquirt v2.2 ecu with v1 cpu and have got the ms1 extra software all loaded and running so I can utilize the ignition control, launch control and boost control, I was tempted to go all the way and use the nitrous setup as well but decided that was possibly getting a wee bit excited! but hey its only a couple of extra circuits to add it in at a later date! Anyone with advice and experience on tuning these megasquirt ecus I would love to hear from you.
Apart from that I have fitted the turbo to the bike now but am still yet to make an inlet manifold, I will also now have to make a throttle body, fit fuel pump, make a wiring loom, fit blow off valve, modify and fit oil pump, fit intercooler, etc etc alot of headachs but hopefully will give a bit of buzz before the bang!

Taken me a while but here is the latest update, its pretty much ready to start, I just have to sort out a fuel leak and and run a boost line to the fuel pressure regulator and put the fuel tank on, hopefully if I get time it may be started this week! Taken me a year to get here from my last post good things take time!

thats fantastic! Once running are you planning to get it certified so you can use it on the road- you could then have a right laugh! How heavy is it? I love reading projects like this! Good work.

It goes!!!

It runs finally got it running, very out of tune but it goes all the same, I was running it on petrol and the injector is sized to suit methanol so it is a wee bit rich but it runs all the same!!
