intake manifold swappage
Does anyone know if a 71-73 12A intake manifold CANNOT be used on a 1980 12A?
trying to use the power of deduction to track down a mysterious vacuum leak.
thanks in advance

They should be about the same, but I dont know. I could have a look for you. I do have a twin dizzy motor and all the side houseings and rotor houseings to a single dizzy motor, just no insides.
Ill see what I can come up with if you like. Give me a day or two.

I think the older manifolds flow better. Be carefull with the intake runners. Some manifolds didn't have channels between primaries and secondaries. Your engine may not run right if you use a later nikki on an early manifold.

I'm using the 73 carb and intake on an 80 engine. Seemed like the ports were exactly the same on the 1980 gasket which is why I didn't think twice about using it.
I think my problem is just low compression at low engine speeds . . . time to rebuild soon I guess.

aaargh, I just accidentally cleared a great reply. I shouldn't drink and post .
I think they ought not be interchangeable - the various after market manifolds and gaskets quote different part numbers for the twin vs single dizzy 12a's, or specifically exclude the earlier models in the range of engine they fit .
I'd pull off the inlet and check the port match - hopefully the gasket is crushed enough to show the line up of the inlets. (or otherwise).
I'd look at the watergallery's and also see if there is the air hole under the ports in the centre plate - hopefully this isn't venting directly into the larger inlets of the later 12a's.
Otherwise I scour the carb and inlet for more of those annoying breathers, vents etc that seem to be everywhere.
Godd Luck.
