Glc

I've been searching around for basic dimensions and weight for the RWD GLCs produced between 1978 and 1981. I've been considering a rotary conversion of one and I know it's been done previously. I've also heard that you can swap in many suspension parts from the FB rx-7s. I tried a search on here and on google but couldn't seem to find much info beyond a few pics of a 12A in one.
Thanks,
Grant

Ask steve84gs (I think that's how he spells it). He's a member of this forum and had a GLC with suspension goodies.

I belive that there are a ton of Rx3 parts that are a direct swap.

My GLC has a front crossmember and front cover motor mount from an RX-3. It also has a few 1st gen RX-7 parts here and there.

Hmm, so no possibility of swapping over all the suspension from a 1st gen? I'm thinking that eventually my RX-7 is gonna rust away and I'd like to transfer basically everything into a different car. I'm also looking for how much a GLC weighs, if it's similar to my Rex then I'll just not bother.

Some 1st gen suspension stuff will swap into the GLC. I'm clear on the details. Ask Steve.

Everybody says a GLC is lighter than a 1st gen. Like 1785lbs or something. I've never weighed mine so I'm not sure.

Hmm, wonder if I could slap my FC front subframe under one when the time came? I'm definately thinking that one of these has potential when my Rex dies.

Could anybody give me the European name for your GLC? Im guessing either 323 or 626, and in that case, it has been done!

Lets have a look in the old harddrive.... Ah, found some pics! This is what we call a 323, it has a 12A, huge street port, and weighs 850 kg, (how much is that in pounds?) It certainly light, and small. Ive seen a lot of these babies down under (Australia)

Yeah thats the car. The later ones (all FWD) were called 323 here. I've seen one or two with 12A swaps, I'm interested in seeing how the entire suspension would swap over.

Well, dont knowabout the suspension, the car above had the original. Also the builder of that car had to fabricate new engine mounts to fit the 12A. It was a easy job tough, took about an hour or two.

If you are interested in more info, i suggest you try searching the australian rotary schene. These guys have done numerous conversions on GLC/323.

I did a rather thorough search a few weeks back but really didn't get a whole lot more than "yeah it's possible, see heres a picture". So far this thread has been my best source of info.

This thread will become even more valuable if you can pursuade Steve to come in and describe how he did his.

I got my GLC after it already got a set of 1st gen struts, so I don't know any of the details of the swap, but I think Steve did all his own work. I'd like to get a set of 1st gen aftermarket springs for front and rear because according to Steve, you can install rear springs in the rear with some effort. Fronts are just liike a 1st gen.

I race a GLC in SCCA w/ the piston motor. Last year I bought a really nice GLC (silver blue) for the motor and sold the body to Mazsport here in Largo. One of their guys put a built 12A in that made it wicked fast. Sold it on Ebay for over $5000.

On the front end, you pretty much need to use an RX3 front cross member if you can find one. The GLC suspension will bolt right on. You should be able to use any early 1st gen struts, coilovers, etc for the ride height you want.

On the rear, my car has an RX2 rear, which is the right length, uses the 4x110 wheels and will accept any rx7 pumpkin so you can pick your gear ratio, and go LSD if you want to. The GLC rear axle isn't super weak, but I'm also not slamming it with the hp you guys are. Drop me a note if you have any more questions.
