Beginning 1967 110S Restoration Project

Agreed. The good news is that the car will most certainly be at Sevenstock 10 in September and for all Sevenstock's go forward. Like Glenn told me this morning "the car needs to be some place where it can be appreciated, not sitting in my garage covered up." With the historical significance of this car, I most certainly agree.

Well everyone,
Hate to see her leave Phoenix, but Glenn Robert's 1967 Cosmo Sport 110S (the Curtis Wright car) was sold today to Mazda North America (MNA). Mazda is purchasing select historically significant rotary cars as part of this year's 40th Anniversary Celebration of Mazda Rotary Production.
I travelled up to Glenn and Valerie's home to witness the departure. We were met by Jeremy Barnes from MNA and Aaron Robinson from Car and Driver Magazine. The two had commuted over from Los Angeles in an RX-8 to 'drive' the 110S back to LA. With temps forecasted for 107F Glen and I were a little concerned about them driving such a historically significant piece for 7 hours straight through the desert heat without a trailer or some other type of support vehicle, but the two assured us that they would be fine.
Well, this evening Glenn called to tell me that Jeremy contacted him and said they had made it to LA without a hitch. In fact, he said the car ran GREAT and performed flawlessly the entire way. Glad to get the news. Watch for Aaron Robinson's article about their adventure in the July issue of Car and Driver magazine!!

Now the question of the day is.... How much did MNA pay for the car?... We all know the car wasent for sale and Glenn didnt want to sell it... Plus, the historical value that ties into the original owner and all... Also remember that MNA has deep pockets... So how much did this car sell for?... Don't say oh that's personal and oh I don't know....
It's important how much this car sold for to get a rough idea what these cars are worth for those who have them and those who will aquire them..... That's what this forum is all about such as documenting historical transactions... This is also very important...
Thanks,
Dwayne

True, Glenn wasn't actively pitching the car, but when Mazda expressed interest he felt it was the right time and right buyer. He truly was interested in selling the car to someone where the car would be appreciated and shared, not how much cash he could generate. It would be fun to see how high a "pristine" model would go for at Barrett Jackson.

Are you kidding? Craig Jackson will take a cut off anyone or anything looking to sell where there's a potential buyer. Pettit sold a 3 rotor FD at BJ Palm Beach last year for somewhere around $42K. I've seen a few NSXs go across the block at Phoenix over the past several years, so yes, no exclusion on Japanese cars.

I DO know how much they paid, but Glenn and I are close friends and quite frankly it's not my place to disclose that kind of information. It's not like 200 U.S. owners are out there wondering how much their Cosmos are worth. Let me just say that Mazda is owned by FORD, so "deep pockets" is not exactly how I'd describe their bargaining position.

I'd say he must have gotten at least $50,000 for it... That's a $30,000 profit in over a years time and the car went to a good home... Good for him!...

PS. As for Ford "not having deep pockets" to buy one little sixties car... They DO!

excellent work , the only time ive even seen real pics/videos of one of these cars was a "my classic car" episode when they visited Jay Leno's garage, where he had a perfect mint condition '67 cosmo that they took for a test drive. keep the pics comin!

"Not sure what the publish date is but it could not possibly be before the August issue. American car mags work on a 2-month lead time and the July issue was already at the printers when we were visiting Glenn. Watch for it in August or September."

Well, Glenn delivered the L10B Canadian Cosmo to Racing Beat in Anaheim last week. Check out the pics with Glenn's old L10A on the left and the Canadian car on the right (front looking back). Glenn's old car (now Mazda's) was at Racing Beat getting freshened up following the recent East Coast press tour. You can check out both of these incredible cars in person at this year's Monterrey Historics event at Laguna Seca, August 17-19.

1967 Mazda Cosmo
I saw the C&D magazine mini article. At least they mentioned the car. I am glad the Cosmo is going back to MNA. It is going full circle and hopefully many people will get a chance to see and enjoy the vehicle. After all, this is really a museum piece in my opinion. I owned the car before Glenn did and let me tell you something interesting. I offered the car to the Blackhawk Museum in Danville, CA. and the curator guy was not impressed with the car at all. Maybe he didn't know much about significant Japanese autos or what. But, anyway, good move, Glenn!

Thanks for posting. Like you, I'm glad that the car found a good home and I believe that MNA is about as good as it gets for a rotary car with the significance of this one. I'm sure someday the guy at the Blackhawk Museum will kick himself for passing her by. Thanks for taking good care of her while you owned her.
