808 to RX-3 Conversion
#2
If you are going a series 4/5 or late 13b turbo or NA:
12a timing cover is needed due to the mounting method used on the rx3. (rx7 side mounts compared to front mounts for the 808/rx3)
and an early 13b sump is required.
however, if you are going turbo.
you need to modify the engine crossmember so the turbo will clear the steering box
u can just cut a piece out of the left side of the xmember (around 1.5-2.0 inches) then joining it back together and replace that piece you just cut out and weld it back on the right hand side.
EDIT: im not sure, but you may need to remove the twin scroll solenoid from the rear of the turbo because it may hit the steering box.. (this is assuming you are using stock turbo manifold, but more on that in a sec)
you can get a refabed xmember that u weld your self, but wheres the fun in hacking up a standard part?!?
OR:
you can get a custom manifold made up for the turbo and mount it more forward.
gearbox:
the gearbox to get it to fit the shifter will need to be mounted forward around 5 inches, by shortening the shifter extension shaft, if you have any doubts doing this, most rotary shops would do this for you.
now mounting is harder, you will probably need a fabbed xmember and slight modification of the mounts with a hammer, and im fairly sure some tunnel moddeling will be needed so you dont get banging.
also on a last note, throw away the clutch fan and get some thermos, will make installation and mounting easier, plus it is a good idea.
i think that is about it, if you have any questions, just ask, im sure there are more guys out there who know more, im hoping this will help you more....
