'75 REPU finally tagged without smog!
Here's an old thread for reference:

Just a heads up to any fellow old school rotary freaks in California. I've owned my '75 REPU for about a year and a half and have needed smog for it ever since. Well, when 2004 rolled around it was smog exempt according to DMV. I was kind of wary of them just handing over the registration tags after Jan 1, 2004 since I had needed smog so long but never did anything about it.
Today I went in, said "yeah I need to get my current tags for this vehicle," the lady at the counter shuffled some papers around and pulled up my info in the computer, then she asked "have you taken care of the smog?" I said "no it's exempt now" and she said "oh, yeah it is" and just waived the smog requirement I guess it was and gave me current tags.
I'm so excited, now I can actually drive it around without being so paranoid. I didn't think it was going to be that easy but apparently I didn't have anything to worry about.

!#$% Arizona, my '74 needs emissions every year as does any car from '67 - '80 and there is no rolling window. Not only that but my '93 motorcycle needs it every year also along with every other motorcycle on the road.
People complain about CA emissions but I think we have it the worst out of any state in AZ. CA just started doing dyno tests? We have been doing them for years! And not just some 30mph test, it goes up to 60 and there is alot of acceleration in there making turbo cars boost. If there is one thing I hate about living in the Valley of the Sun, it is the emissions crap I have to deal with.
Sorry for the rant, I am very frusterated right now. I just got my REPU through emissions about 2 weeks ago after 3 attempts and have now just failed my 4th try on my FD. My motorcycle is also due this month but I dont think that one will have any problems.
edit: Almost forgot, congrats and have fun driving it!

CA has been doing the roller dyno smog test for a few years. mabye started in 1998?
bummer about annual smogs in AZ. CA is just starting to smog bikes.
any chance to register your vehicles out of state to avoid or reduce smog testing? mabye in nevada?

Nevada has smog tests in only two counties, Clark (Las Vegas) and Washoe (Reno/Sparks/Tahoe) The rest of the state has none what so ever. Get a PO Box in some small town. Registration runs about $30 annually for a 70s car.
