616/RX-2 tranny dilemma
Hey guys,
Some of you know that I recently bought a 72 616 which I am converting to rotary using a 74 RX-4 13B and 4 gear tranny.
Now since I pulled out the original 1.6 piston engine, I noticed that the crossmember is totally different and wouldn't allow me to bolt in the 13B no matter what I did. So thanks the Matt22 here on the forum, I accuired an actual RX-2 crossmember, which bolted directly into the car except for the lower control arms. Turns out the bushings are totally different size. So I called up Billy at Re-speed (figured he'd have some RX-2 front end parts just layin around). We did some measuring over the phone and the control arms turn out to be exactly the same.
So now I just need the RX-2 bushings pressed in and then I can get it rolling again.
Anyways...my problem is the tranny. The shifter location on the RX-4 4spd tranny is about 3 inches further towards the tailshaft than the 616's original tranny.
I dont exactly want to just cut the floor to make it fit, so could someone who has an RX-2 tranny kickin around do some measuring for me? Or does anyone know if the RX-2 and RX-4 trannys are the same?

As far as I know, the shifter location on all pre-81 trannies are the same. Now, if you want to use a 81+, do a search on shifter modification; shortening the remote shifter so there is no need to cut the floor.
