okay this is the deal, I need help
I have a 1973 rx2 I want to make into a dally driver / autocross going to drop in a 13b t or 13b tt but, What i'm here for is a want to upgrade suspension and brakes and need to know where to look and what to look for please help.

i take it you just bought your RX2, good luck finding performance suspenion pieces. i did find a set though i think it would have been near $1000 plus shipping USED

 

Right, Australia is the place to be.

Most Australian shops do ship internationally.

I got my shocks from Ebay in the US (Koni front / KYB rear), the lowered/stiffer springs from SelectMaz in Australia (ask them to ship new stuff as "used" with a low declared value to avoid import duties) and the stage 1 blocks from Racing Beat.

It didn't cost me more than 400$ in total.

Ground-control used to offer coil-over kits for the Rx-2 but I just checked and they have renewed their site and lost the Rx-2 kit in the process. They may have some stock left.

 

Ok thanks for the help so far. What about going with a custom setup or maybe something out of a another car, Some on told me some of the first rx7 parts will fit, But that could of been some on who did not have a clue what they where taking about. lol pleas help.

Ps. Just to give you incite on what im doing im striping the car down right now. As son as that is done im getting linex in the engine bay interior and the trunk. Then will start re wiring suspension motor interior and last will be paint. Will post pix when I get them.

 

why are you linexing the interior and engine bay? I knwo that stuff should resits soem heat but engine bays get damn hot. and that stuff is gonna weigh you done if you want to be an autoXer. the trunk i do plane on doing. be sure to install a drain plug in there though.

 

There are 2 drain plugs in the trunk to begin with, and as long as you pull them before you linex, you'll be fine. I'm doing it when my car's painted, but I'm painting before I wire, rebuild, install interior, or do drivetrain.

 

I'm linexing for looks and sound. And I'm waiting to paint so that I don't scratch or mess it up during the rebuild. This weekend it lost about 75lbs. I got the entire interior removed, I also got the entire wiring harness out, and started to remove the engine. Does anyone know whether it will be cheaper to have the body sandblasted, or chemically dipped? What are the advantages and disadvantages of both? Also, does anyone think that motor alone can just be lifted out of the car, or should I borrow an engine lift? Thanks for the help! Will have pix posted soon. I pulled my RX-2 engine out for the first time last week and it only cost me $35 for the weekend and made things much easier. Dipping has no real drawback other than the cost. Sandblasting is cheaper but more time-intensive. I blasted my car by myself and warped my hood to an unrestorable condition due to the heat involved. When you sandblast thin sheet, keep the pressure light and keep moving. Heat will build up and warp it in an instant. Personally, I'd use aircraft stripper if I were to do it again.

thanks for the help I’m still looking for suspension would love help also dose ne one think the stock will hold up to the new power what I’m afraid of is the stock not being able to stop me when the times comes to need it

Has some nice brake kits, which is what I plain on using when I go 60-1 turbo later on this year.

 

Anyone know if Pac (or anyone else) makes a rear disc brake kit for RX-2s? I'd love to ditch those drums and upgrade the fronts @ the same time. Mike

No they do not offer any kind of warenty so I would stay away from them.

www.nippon-motors.com sells them for a nice price and come with a 30 day waranty.

I have personal been there when looking for a jspec engine, and they do compression test, as well as run there engine for a few seconds on there test machine to make sure it starts and runs, also compression test coolant system for internal leaks.

Verynice shop and would personal go there myself if I ever needed a Jspec.

You might also try your local forums to see if anyone in your area has one for cheap.

 

there is a company thats gonna start making them soon.
they seem like they are growing pretty fast and dont have the machine time though. I will try to find an web address for you.
also they dont have a price yet. I hear many of the Aussy's go with a rear volvo set up. not sure which but thats another option. lates matt22

Ok so I think I found what I’m using for the front end of my car I also have 94 toy pu and was looking at the front end and I think it might work I called a few yards around me and they told me I could get one for about 250 to 400 I think it just might be worth it to get and see if it works if not spare parts for my truck lol what do you think has any tried this if so let me know

 

also what do you think is a good master cylinder up grade going to need to go big to be abele to stop

 

Well now Mr. Bluemunkey I do kown that 2nd gen suspension will fit in a RX4, and I know that there is not to much defferenc between to two, with a little enginering on your part and by following the post I have been doing you could save your self a lot of MONEY. There are 2nd gens out there that are FREE less motor and trans. and by useing a sen gen you could be getting the more easry to get up graded kits,

 

well i hope you just did a typo by saying rx4 cuzz i have a rx2 thanks will start looking for parts .

you mke a good point gambone. I have some front end pieces still from my 2nd gen days, you could use the entire setup with some carefull help. and for the rear so you can have the same bolt pattern you can easily install a 8.8 or 9 inch rear, many things to consider mr.bluemonkey
lates matt22 oh and by the way if you gonna look for 2nd gen pieces, do yourself a favor and sear mainly for the 87 and 88 gtu and gxl, or the 89-91 gxl or turbo. these models offered some aluminum pieces, more might have but i am very sure on the 87 and 88 models. and they are more likely to turn up for free or at the junk yard. lates matt22
