oh noes what happened? I so coulda fixed your computer haha. Sadly I know 2 much about rx7s and computers... but not much else...

oh car audio but ya thats useless when you have an rx7 haha

Sooooo guys I just got my mazdaspeed membership. Got some parts on the way. I am going to be heading home this weekend to pick up my 2 spare engine and start taking them apart. I still don't know where I am going to get some good s4 t2 low compression rotors, but I think I have everything else handled. I have decided to go with new housing, rotors, apex, rx8 e shaft, and all the normal rebuild stuff. Going to cost $2400 + rotors when I find em. I might get the rotors lightened also just for fun. I WAS going to go ceramic apex but decided to just go either stock or atkins. I am not sure yet. If anybody has any opinions on either let me know. Going to be doing all oil mods, and going to be using competition main and rotor bearings to have increased oil flow to the rotors and e-shaft. Also I am going to get the whole thing balanced and I should be able to bounce the tach off 8500 - 9000 during drifts without much worry. I can't wait!

I am going to try to find a webcam that I can put in my garage to record the whole build, then make a time lapse video to show everything going on.

I have decided that after the rebuild I am going to run turbo-less for the first 2000-4000 miles to make sure I get a nice easy wear in. My turbo spools at 2,500 WITH the NA exhaust defusers and a stock port, I KNOW I couldn't stay out of boost just cruising around town with a ported 6 port no defuser engine. So ya throwing my NA manifold on there for a bit.

Anything new with anyone else?

Did you ever ask your dad if you wanted to do the water treatment procedure?

Anything new with you jenkins? You have been very quiet. Working hard I guess? I am going to be doing a V-mount when I change the engine built, but I have to get creative with the AC's little radiator thing. Not sure where I am going to put that. Anything new with the intercooler? Hows the FD? No news makes me nervous. O.o

anyways laters all, DRIVE SAFE IN THIS CRAPPY WEATHER!

/end Tweak newz

Ya, we're a go for the water treatment, and water should do just fine instead of the seafoam. So if you wanna help me with it that would be great. Or if you lemme know which hose it is i need, i could easily do it with help from my roommate, but that would be more so that I wouldn't be a bother to you, so lemme know.

So pretty much I need to take my engine apart to see why I'm losing compression. I just wish I had the place and tools to do it with.... and a car to replace it while I take it apart, lol. But for now it seems to be running fine aside from the occasional cold-start issues.

wow there little buddy. Hehe this isn't a normal piston engine. There isn't going to be one thing causing your compression to be low. I can tell you right now that your compression is low because it's old. Nothing is "failing" but it is worn down causing it not to seal as good as it did from the factory. So for the matter of taking it apart to see what is causing the low compression, that would be a bad idea. And since your compression was low on both rotors, and the same lowness on each pulse on the compression test, it is safe to say it is not a major problem, just old engine.

Also just opening it and closing it again is going to cost $ becuase there are seals that must be replaced after you open it up. (and you will see all the seals that arn't looking so good that you will want to replace). If I were you, I would do the water threatment, see how it feels afterwards, and get through the winter season. Get that fuel pump switch on there, it's starting to get cold outside and it would suck if you have to open your hood every time you want to start it. If after the winter season it really starts to feel like its dragging butt, we can do a nice "freshen up" rebuild. Do a tiny port job and replace what looks like it's starting to get out of spec. I'm not talking a huge new housings, new rotors, wild street port, but a oh this is nice rebuild.

This weekend I am going to be heading back to yakima to tear apart my blown turbo engine, and bring up my good NA engine. I think I will tear it apart in my dorm room for funs. You are welcome to come and see if you would like. Also I will have some rebuilding DVDs that I can copy for you if you want to see those.

After I do my rebuild, and get past the break in period I will give you a ride and see what cha think. The turbo will make it a little unfair though.

Anyways yay water threatment! I want to hear your feedback after please! Make sure the engine is fully warm before you do it so that it will cause the water to steam. Let me know if you can't find the propper vac line for the water threatment. I found that it is A LOT eaysier to keep the car running while doing a threatment if you find a vac that only goes to 1 rotor at a time. Like the pressure sensor vac line only goes to the front rotor. It is very easy to keep the car at idle.

Anyways. Good lucks and have fun!

rofl. yeah yeah, so maybe i can get a little carried away, and hey, I'm still learning.

Anyways, I'd love to come see your tear-apart in your dorm room, give me a chance to see everything up close would be grood.

And I'll be doing the water treatment as soon as i figure out which vac line to use. Thanks for all the advice on it. If you happen across any other helpful hints, don't hesitate to let me know, lol.

awesome! BUT I have 2 spare 180 GB hard drivers, and a spare DVD burner here haha. Did they charge you? If your computer was running at all? Did they install vista or xp? You know as a WSU student we get 1 version of vista business and 1 version of xp pro for free right? If you have xp and want vista let me know, it is a super easy install, but kinda unnecessary. (I don't use it) But hey if it works awesome. Sorry to hear about your usb drive effing everything up. Scary. I have learned to avoid those things at all cost. I just upload things to my webserver and download the files from where ever I am.

Scrims- you got that fuel pump switch installed yet? It will suck to do the water treatment without it because the water can easily cause the engine to stall, and you might have to constantly restart it until you find the sweet spot. Do you need help installing the switch?

Nah, don't need help for the switch. The install will be easy for me once i get off my lazy butt and do it, lol. Though I will need to look up which wire it is i am going to need to splice.

If I may add my 2 cents on computers... Stay with xp as long as you can. At least until they fix more of the bugs in vista. I installed our free vista copy last year and I've been regretting it ever since. So much software isn't compatible, and in my roommate's case, his sound card drivers aren't compatible, making it so whenever he turns on the sound, his compy crashes. Plus the security things that ask you to confirm everything are annoying as hell. Yeah you can turn 'em off, but still.

And of all the versions to give us, why the hell did they give us business?

business is better then home and pro. But ya.. I don't run vista either. I got it installed on my gaming machine on my old raptor drive, but I always boot into my xp drive. I noticed a good 30 fps drop in vista compared to xp. Thats just not acceptable.

debian ftw I love linux.

Spotted: White 2nd Gen GTU w/ gray hood, rotar and atkin's decals..

Does it belong to anyone here? I think it's probably out of town since it was in the parking lot across the way from me and I've never seen it before.

hmmmm do what I do.... follow the 7 till it gets nervous and pulls over.
I would say just kidding ..... but .. I really do...
haha

Well tweak update:
I took apart both my spare engines the last two days... MAN IS IT FUN! haha It's like opening really heavy presents!

Here a picture of the t2 engine 1/2 tore down.

More pictures here. Basically step by step part removal. (over 300 pictures for 2 engine tear downs):
Engine 1 blown t2 Starts on DSCN4478 and goes up. Then when you get to the top go all the way to the bottom. (file 100_0130) and go up!

Engine 2 (pretty good NA with blown coolant seal) start at 100_0242 and go up till you get to the DSCN files.

Hope this helps some one out there.

man, i've seen 3 more 2nd gens today. One i thought was yours, tweak, until i realized that it wasn't turbo. It must be all the people in town for the game.

The tear down does look like a lot of fun, I would love the chance to do that some time so i can get a good look at all the parts. Have fun with the rest of it!

plans to do with the car? Power, reliability or cheapness? you can only choose 2 out of the 3 btw. Pretty cool when you think about it.

Ok, well if you are going to go cheap an reliability I am guessing you are going to stay under 300hp. The rear irons on the s4 are the weakness spot for the s4 t2 engines. The s5 ones are much stronger, but going S5 will be more expensive for the car on the first purchase, and most the time higher in replacement / maintenance parts (because there were a lot LESS s5 made). Although they would be more reliable because of the most likely lower miles, and the s5 t2s wastegate is bigger, a properly maintained s4 on the stock turbo will be just as good. I would stick with the s4, a lot easier to find parts, and the money you save you could do a simple freshen up rebuild and have a nice reliable motor. That is my opinion. Hope it helps.

But let it be know, you start to boost, you wont be able to stop. First yours NA and you feel fast... then you slap on a old s4 turbo you feel what 4 psi feels like. Then once day your turbo spikes at 7 psi and the car takes off. Your car feels slow from then on unless it spikes. You strive for a 300 wrhp car day and night thinking of turbo combinations and methanol injection, and how you would setup your v-mount setup.... be warned ... you will be spending more then you think you will. .... or maybe that's just me... I have A.D.D. haha

lol. yea i know how that works and i know of many who keep cranking it up on stock engines until it blows (of course theyre piston but you know what i mean
) lol. however i just want more than what i have now. i have an 84 gsl NA. and i really want a bit more power and stability in my car but right now im not raceing (other than stupid ricers which i beat even in my NA 1.1L) lol therefore even 4 psi will be fine for me. and since i dont know much about turbos (i specialize in big block setups with super chargers.lol) so i wouldnt be able to turn my turbo up even if i wanted to lol.

Yo, tweak, I'm headed home (just east of seattle) this weekend, the catch is, I'm flying. So if it's something I could stuff into a duffel bag with some other stuff, then I might be able to. But if it's big and bulky, probably not. Not really sure how big you're talking, so let me know, and I'll help if I can.

So i'm thinking about going along the same lines as torq here and looking at getting a 7 of my own (instead of my dad's) and am probably looking at a turbo that isn't too expensive and is reliable.
