Ya it was evergreen speedway. and I didn't DIE!! wooohooo!! Was soooo much fun. Burned through the tires like butter, and learned TONS.

1. Having a stiff suspension is almost required for any serious high speed drifting.
2. OMG DTSS eliminators are amazing for stability and predictable sliding.
3. You don't need huge amounts of power to drift. It helps, but limits you to certain techniques.
4. Racing seats and at least a 4 point harness would help a lot.
(I did well over 15 runs on the day, an I could have done more. By the end of the day I felt like I just played 2 pro football games. If I hold both my arms up like I'm holding a steering wheel it's just ... painful.. haha.. Also for some reason I have bruises forming on the insides of me legs.... I'm guessing they hit each other, but I don't now.
5. WOW drifting is ridiculously fun. The community is awesome, and it's just a 100% fun environment. Fun waiting to drift, fun drifting, fun after drifting. Very low stress. There was an FC s4 NA going around with an open diff. having some issues drifting. No one gave him any $hit and as far as I know, he had a great time.

The only issues I had for the day (looking back as some videos) is that my stock 19 year old suspension was being pushed to its limit. Other then THROWING me around, it was causing traction issues. Each group would do 3 runs, and by the second run my rear tires would be warm and sticky. With the stock suspension any hard turns would semi grip and cause massive body roll. I would lose all traction on the inside front wheel and the outside front would start to skid. No amount of steering would help. (massive understeer.) Other than that I'm all smiles.

So by the time next seasons starts I will :
Get Rtek 2.1 (or stand alone)
720 incjectors
bigger fuel pump
fmic (or vmount)
Turn up the boost to 10 psi from 4.
coilovers
sway bars
roll cage
racing seats w/ racing harnesses
TIRES
and possibly LSD, but my s4 clutch type is still holding STRONG.

That's all I can think of now. Now is time for bed. 8 hour trip back to yakima then to pullman tomorrow. Cya all soons.

My wife goes to WSU and is on her 5th year. We always go to apple cup games and have never seen any beer **** bottles. I asked her about it also and she said that what you're saying is BS. You're not even allowed to have bottles for that matter.

Assssssss you can see my front pass wheel is almost off the ground. :\ My 19 year old suspension HAS to go. But first I am going to take my engine out and install a street ported high compression turboed NA. I think THEN I will be breaking 200 whp. Although not as needed as the suspension upgrades, I am tired of 100k mile motors and the low compression.

I should be doing the rebuild over xmas break. Should be fun. I will document as much as I can.

So if I were to look into getting a new engine.. where should I look? And how much should i plan on spending? Because I'm pretty sure the compression is going on my current engine. Still having occasional issues with a cold start. Tweak.. didn't you say you had a way to test the compression? It might be a good thing for me to check.

Oh, and the drifting sounds like it was a blast. I'm rather jealous

Yes! I have a compression tester. I would be happy to help you compression test your engine! It will take about 30 minutes, and basically all we do is take out both the leading spark plugs, put the compression tester in one of the spark plug holes, (WOT) floor the gas pedal, pull the engine fuses so the car wont try to start, and crank it over a few times. Mine has the option to hold the button so you can see the compression on each side. Also I like to do a sound test to "hear" the woosh woosh woosh sound from the engine. My engine recently blew a side seal so I will be rebuilding my spare engine this xmas break, and when I did the sound test you can easily hear woosh woosh hisss woosh woosh hiss, like a horse running instead of a constant woosh woosh woosh. My compression tester confirmed my suspicions.

ANYWAYS, my car works just fine with a side seal blown. (my compression on the front rotor is 70 70 30) I just have a weird idle. I'm sure the car will get me home to rebuild my spare. But ya! Would be happy to help compression test your engine any time. Just let me know.

Awesome! It'll be nice to finally know if that's the problem or if there's something else wrong. I'm free tomorrow after 12, tuesday after 4, not wednesday, and thursday after 4. And I'm not sure where we would do it... i'm not sure how happy property management for my apartment complex with me doing "major car work" in the parking lot. Though they might just have to deal. It's not really 'major car work" is it

On a different note, I was surfing ebay and I came across a 2nd gen that was in absolutely beautiful condition. Only.... they had dropped a corvette engine in it. I died a little inside. Just thought I'd share.

It is in no way major car work. I had my whole rear end dropped in front of my dorm for 2 days before the drift event and no one cared. :P I was even parked in the 30 min parking zone. haha Anyways no its not major car work, think of it as changing your spark plugs.

A few days ago I put some seafoam into my engine and wow that was fun. HUGE smoke cloud was awesome! People came out just to see what was going on and I just said "ohhh its a rotory.... " they would go back inside.

We can do it at my g/fs appartment if you dont want to risk your place. I do most my car work here and no one has cared yet. Tons of room too.

Yaaaa sometimes ya see people putting piston engines into the 7s and it does hurt for a sec. But, I have a sticker waiting for me at home that is going on my back bumper.

"It's only a 1.3 liter, what is your excuse?"

haha

Also I like to point out to some of my friends (that have 5.0L v8s) that they can't do 1/2 the stuff I can with all 8 cylinders running let alone 2. (if they ran on 2 pistons they would be a 1.25 L)

Also I REALLY recommend that we do a little water treatment to your engine just to clean it out a bit. I did it to mine and WOW did it make a differnce. (not sure if I already posted this on the thread..) but wow sooo much smoother all the way through the rpm range. I will look up to see what vac hose we should use for a s4 na.

Anyways, when you bring your car over (if you bring it over here) we will have to wait AT LEAST 30 mins for the car to cool down. Taking out hot spark plugs is NOT fun. :P

I really don't consider this major car work either, I just don't know what they will think. But I've been under the hood a couple of times to work on my cooling system (had to replace the rad cap, add a bunch of fluid, and find and stop a leak) and no one has said anything, so my place would be alright, it would just be kinda tough since my parking lot is _always_ full and has very little space. So maybe your g/f apt would be best, or somewhere else that is more open.

You obviously know more about all this than I do, yet, so I'll trust ya and say that some water treatment sounds like a good idea.

These forums go down more often than paris hilton...

Looks like it started to run bad so the tried the ATF treatment, helped a little but we still lost the 2nd gen for sale section. Then we blew an apex a month later...

:\

It seems like people are always selling piston conversions. If it's so great, why sell it?

Alright, who's the guy with the first gen with the Pizza Pipeline thing on it who tried to run into me pulling out of an apartment complex tonight?

I'm the guy in the turbo 323 with the giant FMIC and bright yellow foglights.

Heh, they won't be in stock until like the third week of November, but if you wanna buy one I would be more than happy to save you the $$$ on shipping and bring it back with me like, around Thanksgiving break when I go back.

Awesome! I'm so scared I am going to break it seeing how the .. stock rubber plastic ...um..."lip" is all bent up from grinding over curbs... Anyways I will be more then happy to get rid of that plastic. Does it come with mounting hardware? Most of my screws are gone in the rubber stock lip.
