What's the weather really like in WA?
OK I live in the burbs of Washington DC now... and the weather here kinda bites (too much cold and crappy weather in the winter). My buddy is getting a job working for Microsoft and might offer me one working for him there in Redmond, WA.
The question is... is it really as crappy and rainy and depressing in Washington state as people say? Looking at weather.com, it seems that Redmond actually has better weather in some ways than DC does.
1 - Washington DC is warmer in the summer, but also colder in the winter.
2 - Washington DC gets about 3-4 inches of precip every month, Redmond gets between about 1 and 6 inches per month with more rain in winter and drier summers.
So what's up with the weather? Sucky? Good?
Oh yeah, and how are the cops around there? I like to speed a LOT.
Thanks,
Brian

May-September: The best place in the world to live. Beautiful greenery everywhere, gorgeous views, every outdoor activity except the beach. Except for a week to two weeks of 80s and even occasional 90s spikes, the temps are in the 70s.
October-April: 40 degrees and overcast. Drizzle likely. If it's below freezing, there will be no precipitation, because the jetstream isn't carrying any moisture and/or the Olympic mountain range on the peninsula is screening what moisture there is.
This only applies to western Washington, and really just the Puget Sound region. East of the Cascades is a totally different country.

Well here on the East side the weather is much different. Very dry compaired to the West side of the mountains.
Todays big high is 14 degrees, snow still on the ground frozen...Tonight our big high will be 7 degrees. Doesnt rain here much.
Summers are hot and usually between 90-100 degrees.
I don't think Cops here are that bad....so far anyway. They are not so nit picky here like the cops on the west side. More open roads and less traffic.

its around the 30's during the daytime right now, 20's overnight.
cops SUCK in redmond/kirkland (kirkland is close to redmond)
only got a warning for having a headlight out, evreything else got me a ticket.
but the weather is nice around the summer, especially in redmond... the rain is not that bad at all (of course I'm used to it) spring is nice, theres consiferably more rain in fall and winter.

Hey but that’s why it’s soo green around here. Because it always rains.
In the summer the weather is nice. Usually around 70-80F and some months even hotter.
The winter is long and a touch cold. We sit at about 30F right now.
I found that this is pretty close to being right in the middle of both extremes with a little too much rain sometimes. However the sites around here are gorgeous because it is so lush and green.

I love it in Wa. I have lived here all 21 years of my life and have nothing to complain about. I have been to quite a few different states on visits and it always makes me glage that I live here.
I have lived in Kent, Tacoma, Federal Way, Olympia and quite frequently visit the east side. IMO Oly is the best, but that is because I am more of a country type of guy.
Cops are not asses to me...but then again I do not really speed. We will see when I get my project done...they will probably hate me then.
Good luck on the decision!!!

Western Washington has a very moderate climate. The major differences from DC would be no humidity in the summer and less snow/severe temps in the winter. The only downside is the number of overcast/cloudy days.

The eastside(Kirkland-Redmond-Bellevue) is a very safe place to live no crime at all but is rather expencive, Washington has really high tax. From May to October the weather is very good 70's with little humidity hardly any rain at all, as far as it raining all the time prolly the last five years have been really dry it has not rained here in over a week. There are a lot of police over here in the citys just get a V1 and drive as fast as you want on the highway. There is some really beautiful scenery lots of parks and lakes and if you enjoy winter sports there are tons of mountains. I personally would take a job at microsoft they take care of there employees well plus you can always find another tech job at smaller companys that are all over and make alot of money. I haven't been to the eastcoast but I already know I want to live here for a long time I love it.

You should probably move here. Mainly because I want a ride in your single turbo bad ***...
But seriously the weather here isnt bad. We had a really really good summer this last year, not too hot, but there was virtually no rain. Maybe 1-3 days i can remember. This winter so far has been pretty dry as well, just colder than normal. It really depends year to year.
Plus theres quite a bit of 7 owners out here, and they have some sweet gatherings. Thats a huge plus in my mind.

Thanks for the feedback... Sounds like it's not as bad as some people say.
If I don't end up at MS, I'm just going to sell all my crap and buy a boat and go treasure hunting all day in the florida keys
