Notice any faster acceleration? more torque? shorter gears? more shifting?
More torque at lower speeds? Definitely - that's why I did the 4.77. This car mostly sees autox action, and an occasional track day. Got a trip permit so I could drive it on the road long enough to road test and break in the diff. See it in action at the SCCA autox at PIR this weekend. Have fun! make a vid doing donuts(cookies)... Cookies? Probably not. |
Re:
Got my new NGK plug wires and plugs in today from rx7store.net. Jacked the car up, unhooked the accelerator cables and removed the 4 10mm acorn nuts that hold the intake pipe on the TB. Removed the 4 12mm bolts on the TB and thats when things really started to get fun...
Apparently, there is coolant hose that is attached to the TB which is nearly impossible to get off and the TB wont come off with it still attached. In the process of trying to get the TB off I managed to break my TB gasket so I will need one of those now. The best part about this adventure was that after I finally got the TB off I grabbed the spark plugs only to see the letter "T" on all four of the plugs! So I've had my 7 now for 2 weeks and it is already out of commission, jacked up in my garage. So, guess now that the TB is off is there anything I should do to it. Like spray it down and clean it up with some solvents or something? On another note, during this procedure I also noticed that one of my vacuum hoses is cut off. The hose runs to a small black clip/module of some sort next to the brake cylinder. Useful? |

Fired up the FC today!!! :djcelebra
After working on building it from the ground up interior and all, the motor is built, in, and running!! For now it is a Large street/race port S5 NA block with Turbo exhaust sleves, 2 piece apexs, hardened sides, solid corners, viton oils, high oil pressure oil system, Exedy clutch, RB header to 3" strait pipe to AM muffler. And some other shit I can't think of right now. Plan on Building the S5 turbo motor for it eventually, but that takes time and money. So after the fresh rebuild kept flodding on me I finnally got it fired up and man does it sound wicked!! All I can say is I can't wait til after breakin to get this thing goin!! :icon_tup: I will post a few pics soon. |
lets see on the grey car i rebuilt the clutch master cylander, then finally took the snow tires off haha, i jacked the rims from the red t2 since its goign to be down for a while...
ohh yeah and i repainted the lip also http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...c/UNI_0392.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...c/UNI_0389.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...c/UNI_0390.jpg |

motr is in!!! wow ive never had a motor and tranny mate that easily. i swear it took longer to get the hoist set right than it did to drop tht thing in
|
All this to the FB: Ran seafoam through the engine and carb, replaced the fuel filter, cleaned the check valve on the fuel return line to the carb, took emery cloth to the wheels, cleaned the engine and the entire underside of the car, painted the skid plate, replaced the thermostat, and almost finished replacing the engine temperature sensor when it sheared off inside the housing. Will finish the rest tomorrow!
|
Built me a nifty 5th gear lockout device for the TII trans. Slowly getting closer.

What kind of suspension you running on this? I have never seen that brace or cover there on any other FB. Just wondering.

On THAT ride, a lockout is a good thing. LOL Hope your documenting that build Jesus. It would be great to see the start to finish product and all the mods. :)

Opened up the throttle body a little bit. Made a significant differance in throttle response.
Also found a problem in some new housings on a motor I just rebuilt for a customer... The trailing spark plug hole on one of the BRAND NEW rotor housings is not tapped through all the way. The first plug I went to put in started to get tight, and I backed it out, and went again. After doing this twice I inspected the plug and noticed that the threads were being crushed. Son of a gun. Now I have to tap into a motor I just rebuilt and make sure EVERY precaution is taken to avoid getting ANY tap shavings in the motor. Has anyone else had this problem, or have any advice for me when tapping it out? |

Yup I agree with Ray. Open it up and do it right. Otherwise you will end up with a nice sharp ridge on the inside of the housing that will eventually eat and destroy your apex seals even if you get all the shavings out. If its just the read then clamp the front 3 housings together and just remove the rear 2 then reassemble. Or clamp the rear 3 and remove the front. This is just in case you want to save on coolant rings and cleanup. I have done this a few ti9mes to save me from headaches.
Just my 2€ cents. lol. |
Gently drove my now-turbo FB for the first time today. :D Still a lot to do before I can test it out for real, though.
