Well you're welcome to stay at my place, pending the sister's approval which shouldn't be an issue I would think. If they have the tuning in Ballard it's prolly 30-40 mins from me. Not too bad, but if there's someone closer...

While I'm thinking about it, I'd like folks to snap a couple of engine bay shots and fire them over to my email bdc@bdcmotorsports.com. I'd also like a list of specs and mods done to the car. Reason being is since there's time in-between now and then I'd like to make sure things are tip-top with each car to reduce time to sort them as well as help prevent anything bad from happening. Case in point -- spark plugs. The minimum all of these cars should be running is NGK BUR9EQ/BUR9EQP's all around if not a 10 race plug all around.

Brian, I am runnning a 9 now, what is the benefit of running a 10? I do have HKS TwinPower with stock coil. Do I need to change spark plug again if the old spark plugs about 3000 miles? I will do an oil change a few days before the tune.

Nah I doubt you'd have to change them. Most folks run 9's all around and it's been the accepted 'standard' as it were for many years now. There's two reasons however why I bring up a 10 plug (at least for the trailings One, of some of the J-Spec motors I've torn down over the years, I've seen the trailing plug holes on their rotor housings having cracks and score marks which suggests the area is too hot for the plug and Two, a 9 plug is used by the factory at factory power levels and I can't help but think it might be too hot under some circumstances.

A 10 and above race plug, while more costly, is also superior in terms of how a spark plug would work. It'll allow cleaner and smoother high RPM under big boost.

There's a limit of 3 per day because that's all I feel comfortably doing given the time I take per car. I've done more than that in the past but I have to assume that every car I mess with has something wrong with it that I must discover (and fix), hence taking my time with each one.

Hi Guys,

I might be interested in the tune session but I have a couple questions for BDC.

-Do you tune Power FC's?

-How many hours do you recommend on a motor before you tune it (just about to start up a rebuild)

Thanks a ton.

Hi Josh,

Yep I can do the PFC.

You're about to rebuild a motor? Figure at least 500 miles if you replace any of the compression seals (the apex seals in particular) and at least 1000 if you replace any of the crankshaft bearings.

Thanks for the quick response.

The motor was actually rebuilt by atkins. I am just about to start it for the first time.

I am going to email you some pics.

here is a quick summary:

3mm apex seals

stage 3 street port

gt35r turbo

pfc

750 primaries
1300 secondaries

running gas/oil mix

There is however some uniqueness to my build (as there always is with rotaries right? )

The motor is in a Datsun 510, we used a 12a front housing so we could mount it, it is also a jspec s5 motor but we custom fabricated an s6 upper intake manifold onto it.

We are going for the first fire up this weekend so it might be possible to get 1000 miles on it... maybe I could pay to use someone's dyno to break it in faster? Thoughts?

Ok,

Got some more info for the dyno. Dyno will be at Kito AutoSport in Ballard www.kitoautosport.com
Rate is $100/hour. The only thing is he can only do it on weekday and maybe Saturday by appt. No Sunday.
My tought is that if everybody want to get the dyno all in the same day, maybe we can get it done on Monday.
