Stealing rx7s is easy!

About a week ago I was hanging out with Ben and Ryan (kompressorlogic) and I had 4 different rx7 keys with me. I tired all of them on Ryans ignition and sure enough one of them was perfect, started the car right up and actually was a better fit than his own key! ha I bet thats how most rx7s get stollen. We all need to get alarms that kill the ignition.

Hmmmmmmm, I've locked myself out of my FC twice and each time, couldn't pick the lock or put another key in to make it work. I had to use more creative methods to gain access....... Maybe I should just get another FC's key instead?

That goes with FBs and FCs, I start trying other FDs, heheh.

But yes, I was amazed. At one point I had five (FBs and FCs) cars and 3 keys worked on all doors and one key worked on two ignitions.

Shhh. Don't tell anyone.

FBs are the worst targets becasue not only is the ignition not very picky, but a phillips tip screwdriver will give you access by removing the rear light assembly and popping the hatch. I hope the mods delete this before my FB gets stolen. Forunately I do have a security system. Starter kill and hatch lock sensor.

Clean your freakin locks, that what this means. It is a rarity that one key fits two cars in a given area but when you get a bunch of crap in your locks, it will make it more likely for multiple keys to work on a car.

yeah with all this in mind , alarms are a good idea, but a really good idea is a FUEL CUT switch somwhere that is actually hidden, so theifes wont ever figure out how to start the dang thing...

Poor mans security system

On the 1gen RX7's there is a fuseble link (I think its called that) that has four short-wire connectors in the engine compartment on the innerfender on the driver side. By pulling the second one from the top, the car will not start.

I think you are talking about SAs? My FBs rear light assemblies are bolted from the inside...

I do have a fuel cut switch...but with how tempermental my car is right now...i have enough trouble trying to start the damn thing myself...i doubt that theives (especially ones unfamiliar with a rotary engine) would be able to get my car started LOL...and even if they do...they will run the carburetor dry before they get too far

And on that note...i think im gonna go install my remote door locks...

I think he's talking about the little red 6" light that is just above the trunk lock.

Ha thats funny, im actually taught in college to find vulnerabilities and point them out. Not so people can take advantage of them but so they can be fixed by the owner. Yea even though what im taking in college isnt breaking into cars but testing computers, but same thing. We call it vulnerability testing. Companies pay good money for it.

I highly doubt its just the dirt in the locks. Did you know locks too wear out from use over all the years? Maybe if these were brand new locks... but still its a known thing that back in the 80s mazda keys were made very simular to each other so some do work in other mazdas straight out of the factory. I knew a guy with a mazda truck that was pretty new and he could used other mazda keys to open it up.

yeah, FC is easy to steal. Ive locked my keys in my car many a time and gotten into it. i also lost my keys for a week. i was still able to drive it. what really pissed me off was thta i was able to actually take off the sterign lock. it took some time though. so GET AN ALARM SYSTEM!!! or do like me and have a couple of switches in random places that are connected to thigns that your engien needs to operate.

my dad had a RX-2 when he was in college, and one day after class, he forgot where he parked.

Well he found a RX-2 that he thought was his, and drove away. Well it wasnt his LOL. Mazda keys suck!

yep many keys fit many things. thats the way life is. you can't make a key so different for every single car that none will work together. my wifes keys works in mine ( kinda good for the time she took my keys and hers, the only thing i had was a spare of hers). i've had dodges that work together, chevy's, fords, and even padlock keys. it's more common than you think. alot of theives (the good ones) have 4 or 5 different keys made for the kind of car and they can open and drive off with 90% with just those. so thats what i learned with my GPA.

haha nice

Yup so keys arent good enough. That also goes for stock FC alarm that you turn off with a key.. This is why a good alarm is the way to go. Wouldnt want anyone to dump a bunch of $$ into their car then come out and their car isnt there.

Thats sucks! I am so glad I have a alarm but I am working on a special alarm funtion for the car. However, I think if someone want to steal your car you won't be able to stop them if they really wanted your car. So all we can do is stop those that are not sure and don't know our kind of cars. However, that is how far we can go with it.
