Should I buy an Rx7 FD? or keep my DC2?
#28
the GTU is just a model of the non-turbo FC's. take it from somebody who has owned both cars. I miss my DC2! that being said, I will most likely keep the FD for a long long time. but being in school and all, I would highly suggest waiting to get the FD until you have enough to buy 2. these things are much much more of an endless money pit than I ever imagined. worth it when you get to drive it, but notorious for being down more than running.
my suggestion on a fast car? do a K-series swap into that DC2 and haul some ***. they respond very well to mods. I'm actually planning on that for my next project car (if the FD ever allows that is).

Come on. Look up the porche GT1, that might change your mind on the top spot.

Reliability + rotary =12a stock as your best bet. Pretty much all NA rotaries have good reliability if they are maintained and basically kept stock. Reliability mods never hurt though, emissions removal and exhuast upgrades (along with ignition too) can help improve performance along with reliabilty by getting rid of potential failure points (ie emissions equipment/vacuum hose simplification). Off course with any car maintainence is key. It is cheaper in the long run to keep your vehicle serviced than to just drive it until something goes wrong and fix what goes wrong... I like to call that type of maintainence "Band-Aids". You would be surprised how much of a difference it makes to spend maybe $100 and do oil change and filter, air filter, spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributer cap (if applicable), and change transmission and differential fluid.
To give you input on your plan I would only recommend getting an FD if you are in a financial situation to give it time and money. I would have to recommend going with an FB or FC (TII even). FBs and FCs are easy to come by and usually fairly priced, so you could buy one AND still be able to feed yourself more than your car.

if you're going to do a singel mod to your car, I would suggest a B16 tranny before a vtec head. I've experienced both, and that LS tranny makes vtec less fun. or just get a GS-R motor, since A) a vtec head and tranny are hard enough to hunt down on their own, and B) ls-vtec's are notorious for trouble where gs-r/type-r/b16 motors aren't.

Yeah the 12a is one hell of a lil engine, can take a beating to hell and back... but like with any car the more mods the more mantiance you have to do. I like my 13bt, and i like my 12a... the 13bt has ~20k on it the 12a has ~200k on it :p
Also price factor comes into play... with an fb and fc you can get for pretty cheap and then build it up for the price of an FD. fb base is generally around $1200 for a ok one, and fc is around 2000$ for a good one... but you can also look around for deals and steals and get one for pretty cheap... but it will have asthetic/mechanical problems... as with the fb, it looks pretty horrible but it drives like a bat out of hell, and the fc i bought wouldn't stay on when i first bought it...
either way... look what you can get in your finiancal limits... try to have enough money for the car x 1.5 or more
but you also have to remember i like the fc style better than the fb style and the fb more than the fd :p

lol if I have 4 years to save for an FD thats only aprox 4000$ save a year, I make a total of 20,000 a year so it will be easy to save. My guys that are doing my LS-Vtech say the tranny is enough and it will keep stable if I get a vtech controler and don't make it setting too low. Either way thats the plan and it shouldn't cost that much compared to Rx7 parts

Now the new Z06, or the soon to be twin turbo S7's are more my cup of tea...

and vtec controllers are kindof pointless IMO if you're not boosted or at least heavily modded. the factory knew what they were doing when they set it. also I know the ls tranny would do fine, but I feel its much more fun to drive with a shorter one. If I had an LS and limited budget, I would do a b-16 trans before anything else, but yeah, it won't give more power.

Bugatti's are for the guy that has no taste's and a lot of money and couldn't find a Ferrari Enzo or Porsche Carrera GT so had to settle the bugatti. They are hideous cars with a monster engine sounds like a 5.0 to me.
