It runs!
w00t!

Once I get it licensed, I'll be able to come to the Izzy's meets again!
Oh, and on that subject, it'll have to be emmissions tested, and I very much doubt that it will pass. What do you guys recommend, other than the usual "premium gas mixed with alcohol, run lean, etc.?" If I end up needing to get a waiver, how would you go about it? I'd appreciate any suggestions.

thats good u got it running
first get it tested, if it does fail, to get a waiver you need to bring your failed sheet and have a certified emissions specialist/ shop to spend at least 150 tring to fix it. basicly find a certified shop and explain you only want them to spend that amount to try to make it pass, other wise they might try and charge u quite alot "tring" then they sign it saying they tried, then you run it again, if it fails still you apply for the waver in the office at the emissions station

Make sure the certified shop is one the the DOL's list, or else you can't get a waiver! I had my shop do some work after my failed emissions cuz I needed some maintenance and upgraded some parts. Spent about $850 and they wouldn't give me a waiver cuz it's not a "certified" shop... None of them are rotary specialists so I don't trust them with my car, even for $150!!

my community college is a certified tester. My old instructor is certified. Your car "technically" I think is excempt this year (maybe it is next). You may be able to pass if you installed like 2 high flow cats but even then it would be iffy. There is some stuff they sell at schucks that is supposed to guarantee you to pass if you follow the directions.

Thanks for the replies, all.
Unfortunately, I don't have family in-state that lives in a non-emissions area. 'Twould be nice.
Anyone have any experience with Jerry's Little Car Shop in Kent? It's certified, it's fairly close by and I guess they specialize in Mazdas.
I saw the stuff at Schucks, but I was a little skeptical that it would work at all, much less in a rotary. Has anyone tried it?

Yes I've tried it just for kicks and it doesn't do anything if you don't have emissions components... It's just supposed to clean out your fuel system so there's no junk comin out... So I think if you had a COMPLETELY stock RX7 and you used it you would pass, but if you have NO emissions components whatsoever like my car, you're screwed!! As for taking your car to a mazda "specialist" there are pros and cons IMO.
They know the cars so you should feel comfortable (also bad cuz they know what emissions components there should be cuz one of the requirements is an inspection!). However, just because he's a mazda specialist doesn't mean he's a rotary specialist! I ran into that a bunch of that BS when I was lookin for someone to overhaul my gaskets and hoses. Plus, a lot of rotary specialists won't touch the FD because of the sequential turbos! T2's as well... They only do NA's... But, as long as they will work on your car and you trust them, go for it! I'm however, extremely paranoid and extremely picky so I trust NO ONE but people I know and reputable shops. Not saying anything bad about this shop though cuz I know nothing about it. To me location and order are KEY! If it's a bad area or the shop is all out of order or chaotic I wouldn't leave MY car there.... Just my 2 dollars! haha

Yeah, I also have no emissions at all on my car, but I can reinstall some of it temporarily. Unfortunately, the rat's nest for the '84-'85 engine doesn't match up with the wiring harness for the '83 car, so I'm kinda SOL on that one.
I prefer to do the work myself where I can, but since I have to take it to a certified shop to get a waiver, I've got little choice. I'll probably end up taking it to Mazdas and More, as I'm more familliar with that place.
But who knows, maybe by some miracle I'll pass on the first try and won't have to worry about it.

Ok here is a tip for you guys..... When I was in college we played with the testing machines a bit… Basically we could take my turbo'd prelude with ZERO emissions and install a cat that has the side air tube then mount a stock air pump on the motor and basically route the pump so that the intake side had a little k/n filter on it and route the other to the cat to pump fresh air directly into your exhaust wink wink... passed every time.... but in theory I have never tried this on any rotary,... I graduated in 2002 so it’s been a while since I’ve been around any emissions testing tools....

Well your mom was working on that, but after your sister wanted to join in too I couldn’t handle it anymore so I bounced. Also I just wanted to add. If you have nothing good to add to a tech thread shut the f@ck up...

What's so technical about this thread? The fact that you learned how to put an airpump and a cataylitic converter on an engine and make the emissions cleaner? I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but automobile manufacturers have been applying this same technology for years.
Oh and just so you know, profanity and slander definitely showcase your level of intelligence.
Also, this isn't a tech thread. It's a regional thread, Einstein

Ohh yeah, I took my 7 to carb/FI connection in kirkland and told them I only wanted to spend $150 to get the waiver and alex said that he would stop touching it after it hit $150, they are emmisions certified and are pretty good at cleaning up the emmissions.
