It's been a few years since I got one from a Mazda dealership, but they were over $2k for a 13b.

But remember you get what you pay for. Mazda Remans are really nice.

Uhh...well, they are built to Mazda specs, which are really loose. A reputable builder would never use a housing with 2mm of chrome flake, but Mazda seems to think it is okay. On the other hand, when the do find something out of spec, they replace it with a brand new part; not some other used part. The resulting engine is not new or as-good-as-new; just "within spec". The Mazda remans have gotten *very* expensive lately (~$2,400) and the lead-times are very long (~3 weeks), so there is almost no reason to get one.

So do you know of a reputable local shop that will build you a good motor with brand new rotor housings and apex seals for less than $2400?????

The big advantage that Mazda has is that they get the parts cheaply, rather than having to pay the exorbitant monopoly prices they charge everyone else.

Not always... Kevin landers tore down a blown FD reman from Mazda, had an s5 N/A front rotor and an FD rear rotor.

Who says they use brand new housings? Sure they do SOMETIMES, but not always.

Remans also come with NEW water pumps, new or resurfaced flywheel, coolant level sensor, temp sensor and thermostat. That'll cost you $100-200 more.

I've purchased 9 remans and had good results. Mazda (or contract manufacturer) builds more rotaries than anyone else.
