NW wheels and Tires
hey guys!!
So I picked up a screw and riped open one of my tires yesterday. I got it patched for a short fix but I will need to have a new tire shortly. Right now I am on the factory setup rims 225/50R16 and I have the Toyo Proxes 4 tires all the way around. I am thinking about stepping up to a larger rim with a higher performance tire. I am looking for something like a 235/45R17. I am curious if anyone has put a wider tread width rim on their car and how it did. If it worked out well I am trying to do that. Then also if anyone has the Toyo Proxes T1-R tires on their car if they can let me know how those are as well.
Thanks,
Chris

Toyo Proxes anything are the shittiest tires I have ever driven on and were absolutely horrendous on my FD. No traction in any weather and the only tire I would never use in the rain. It's like driving on ice. Which is fun, but with Toyo's you have no control.
May I suggest Hankook or Dunlop tires? I am very pleased with my Dunlop SP5000's and they are fairly inexpensive.
As far as wheels I can't comment cuz I have no experience on the FD, however the more tread width I had on my Acura the better it held to the street. Being that you're not going much wider I wouldn't see it as making much of a difference.

Well I guess I won't buy anymore Toyo's! The car came with the Proxes tires on it so I am not going to buy again. I talked to chuck and he said that he picked up a set of 99' spec wheels which make the rear a 265! I really want to find a set of those.
On a different note I was able to get the tire patched for $10 so I am good to go!! Still want to crash the suby meet??

I think he picked up a set of the 17x8 front and 17x8.5 rear '99 specs. I got the base '99 specs and they are 16x8 front and rear. You'd be looking to get something like these:

what!!! i dont think ive ever had a problem with my proxe 4's. i rock those in the front and they're fine. i have heard bad things about em but i think theyre ok, they have stiff sidewalls n hold up pretty well. its a lil easy to get em warm like in autocross but theyre all season tires not soft compound griptastic. and there like 60 bucks a pop brand new, not too shabby

I ran 235s before with no problems.
BTW, I have a set of toyo proxes RA-1 for sale 225/40/18 and 275/35/18 with 90% tread.
These are the DOT approved track/performance tires. I've used them and liked their performance.
The only reason I can't use them anymore is that last year I was sponsored by Toyo, but since then picked up Dunlop sponsorship.

i havent tried the new proxes 4's, but i ran a set of the old proxes FZ-4's on my old fc and had the same experience as Mazdatim. bought a set of hankook k106's and those things grip like crazy. i'm only putting down maybe 170hp at the wheels atm, but still, they can be tough to break loose on a hot day, best rain traction i think i've ever had either
