hey washington guys were screwed.

Well here's my 2 cents:
Personally, I'm all for reducing Global warming and enacting laws designed to lower vehicle emissions. What makes me really mad however, is the conspiracy between Washington DC and Detroit. On one hand, they toughen up the emission laws for older vehicles and give credits and incentives clean-fuel vehicles. But on the other, they're giving prehistoric waistfull SUV's special privileges and contributing to an overall lower average vehicle MPG the US has seen in more than two decades.
Sort of like starting a war to promote peace?
I think if any vehicle should get a break, it should be a rotary...Well at least over an S**U**V** that is ;-)

it doesn't look like its geared towards our cars, it looks like its geared towards new cars... which means no modded rx8's heh... but one day we'll see a rx8 hydrogen hybrid, and maybe fully hydrogen, so no worries... at least imo.

******* HIPPIES!!!
My god damned online environmental sciences class is all giddy about this bullshit. I am constantly telling them to stfu on our online discussion board and that their ******* hippy cars are polluting too, and to go kill thesmelves.
You wanna know the real problems? Instead of making all of WA have the cali laws, why not get rid of all the non-emissions counties in this state and make them now have normal WA inspection? Keep the laws/regulations the same and just make everyone in the state do it, not just like half of it. This would be a lot better for cleaning up the air. Also, lower the emissions from factories and ****, they're creating more problems than our cars.
*cartman voice* God damn hippies!

This looks to be directed towards new cars. If you read carefully, washington will not even adopt ALL of cali's strict standards. But it says that they are wanting to reduce CO2 emmisions in new vehicles. Im not saying that this means that they wont inspect older cars, i just really doubt that the laws will be as strict as that of cali's. Even so, it would take a year or so for this to all go into place.
just my .02
*edit* just finished reading ALL of the article...this will take around 4-5 years for this to all go into place...

Yah but I read somewhere else that older cars are going to have more restrictions now too, and the 25 year rule might be taken out or made longer. Not only that but they're thinking about adding emissions to all counties in WA now :|
I just hope it stays the same or near the same where I am and keep NO visual, otherwise it'll be trickier >:|

Passing emissions isn't hard, you just have to be smart about it. My very first emissions test when I got my rx7 blew 2000 HC's at idle and 1500 at cruise or something like that. I got it down to 73 and 86 respectively. It just takes a little effort and rigging.

Yep, if they adopt the harsher laws for older cars as well as new ones, that's still undecided I think. I think they're at least going to do it for new cars, older ones is up in the air though. One big reason why cali people can't really port :|
At least I can close my aux ports and it becomes *less* ported, so hopefully I should be okay.

You can also blame most of the pollution from China and Japan. The overseas air currents head straight for the northwest.

Rules shall be applicable to motor vehicles with a model year 2009 and later.
I'm glad we don't have emissions here, none of my cars would pass. I agree with testing new cars, but they should make it only apply to factory standard setups. Once you've modified your car a lot you shouldn't have to pass. The reason for this is because of the relativly small percent of cars that get modified. Maybe make it that you have to have your car licensed as a secondary vehicle or a sports car and the licensing fee's go up.

If they did that we'd have even worse pollution. I hate how strict it's getting but you can't just do things like that, otherwise it'd be even worse and we'd have air like cali, or worse. I hate going to cali, the air tastes bad, it's heavy, and it smells all the time. I wouldn't want it like that here.

Anyway you slice it, I don't think it's a good thing to be #1 ahead of China in such a statistic. Oh yeah, I also own a Hybrid, so does that make me a hippie? ;-)
