lol Comcast is a monopoly. If I want another cable TV service I do not have an option. Where is their competition? That's why they get to charge what ever they want. Dish is great except for the slow internet speeds, and when it snows you get little to no reception. That’s why we went back to Comcast... We are still regretting it today.

No kidding I'm just trying to get internet set up at my new place and they just want to upsell me cable and phone. I tell them no, but they keep pushing and their listed prices are only if you get at least 2 services. Not cool cost 54 a month for internet wtf.

Sorry i was venting that day.. I dont watch alot of tv. I am on the puter or out and about, I dont mind a system to save kids and all. But an amber alert taking what tv shows i do watch away to tell me some kid is missing 200 miles away is a joke.. When comcast sticks you on Cspan for 45 minutes it tends to **** a person off.. ya know. COuld have been a glitch. But still
Why not highjack every local music station so people in cars can get the message..
I feel local government wants to Coral everyone up and make problem everyone's
Soon they will have an alert come across our tv every day "ALERT BANK ROBBER CAR LOOKS LIKE SO AND SO. HAVE YOU SEEN IT""
Um no i am in my house LOL

Did anyone notice last night, during Robot Chicken, that almost every cable channel locked up for several minutes? Only the local channels and the crappy Disney channel were normal. This was observed on the TV tuner card in my computer which is still hooked up to analog cable.
I recently got one of those Comcast "Digital Transport Adaptor" things because of all their warnings about losing your channels in coming weeks/days whatever, and because you could get two of these things for free. Well it was completely locked up. Piece of technological garbage. I couldn't watch ANY TV on that thing. "One moment please. Your service has been temporarily blah blah blah I suck blah blah drop me in water blah blah blah".
I went back and tried the TV tuner again and watched the local channels for a few minutes while periodically checking the cable channels. As locked as ever so I turned it off and got on the internets.
It turns out the "Digital Transport Adaptor" is very addressable. They know exactly which channels you watch and when. Someone said that's how they get their ratings. Um not exactly. Why do they need to know which channels I watch and when? Kinda creepy.
An interesting contrast to Comcast is to receive the new DTV and HDTV broadcasts over the air. You need one of those $40 government coupon digital converter boxes, or just buy one (preferably the Channel Master D2A box because it has an S-video output, which is the only couponable box with that feature). I've found the extra channels that are "multicast" along with the main channels to be of much better content quality than 95% of what you'll find on cable. The main local channels also give you the option of watching in letterboxed or anamorhic mode where as cable just gives you the standard 4x3 on the locals. Lame.
I get a total of about 30 channels with Lloyd's huge old fringe-area VHF+UHF antenna aimed at Seattle and a smaller UHF-only aimed more east. If we canceled Comcast tomorrow I'd probably not miss it too much, except maybe at night because I still enjoy an occasional fart joke on Robot Chicken. But I guess there's Direct TV or Satelite for that.

GRRR Forum just ate my reply.
Basically, cable companies dontt know what your watching unless you have a DVR or use PPV. The converter boxes for cable are a one way box, no talk back. The ratings are based off volunteer households with special boxes installed, DVR feedback, and streams at each neighborhood node being monitored. Not what house is watching what, but how many in one area are on the same channel. (Think about it, how would they know how many people are watching OTA free tv? They cant base raitings off numbers no one knows.)
