Wink BLOWN t2 motor tear down /W pics

finally tore down the t2 motor i blew last month... it died from detonation id asume, at 165K miles!! long live!!!

getting ready to pull

setting the short block down about to remove tension bolts and begin tear down

blown rotor housing looks good so far doesnt it

no its fucked!!! looks like an apex seal cracked then when it went over the ehxuast port they started falling out and flying around messing **** up! deep gouges 1-2 mm deep in some spots.

the bad apex seals, oem seals 3 piece, all that was left of the first apex seal was those two peices, both springs were gone also.
the other two seals were jammed down and one was perfect but the other shattered into several pieces when it got jamed.. flattend the springs also.

rotor has some deep gouges in it, some allmost 2 mm deep!

another view you can see a small chunk of apex seal stuck into the rotor.

another view of rotor, bearings on the rotor were looking pretty bad some copper spots on them..

the rear rotor seemed ok, very worn down apex seals, and there was a small nick on the rotor like somethign went threw it at some point in time.but the seal was ok

irons are ok 165K on them tho, ill need new front rotor and new front housings obiously tho..... the rear housing is ok i guess..., its got some semi decent wear, no real crhome flaking tho it looks like... suprizingly i cant see any damage on veins on the hot side of the turbo.... it was still making 10 psi on 1 rotor, the turbo does need a rebuild tho... the bearings are shot after 160K. didnt u want to buy that? pm me and we can work somthing out

ill just machien the rotor to 3mm LOL the gouges will just lower hte compression ratio a tad..... i bet that housing would sitll make power with gouges like that, since the gouges are on the intake section, id just have alot of blow by......

well i got my s5 jdm from a one japanese,, i got the one that looked clean, turning the motor over by hand i can hear nice loud pulses like its got decent compression , but appon further inspection once i got it home, i noticed it has a 4 puck clutch, and it had a boost controllor.... i hope it wasnt abused to hard, the turbo doesnt have much shaft play at all tho lucky. theres a compression tage on the motor that shows its between 8-9 for compression on each rotor...

well it looks like it had a boost controllor looking at how the hoses were routed, there is no boost controllor on it when i got it, the intercooler was gone also, it has a EGT sensor bunged into the exhaust manifold also. i might get it compression tested today make certain it is good
