Some dealers are willing to double what the gov pays you as well.

My brother has a jeep that he bought for 3k. He's going to have it scrapped at a dealer that will double it + make 3x what he paid for it. I told him look for a golf or mazda 3.

I clunked my truck and got a 2010 Mazda 3,

Mazda is throwing in $500 on top of the $3,500-$4,500 clunker rebate so I got $5,000 for a $1,200 truck. I went to South Tacoma Mazda and they are giving away the Little Mazda 3

This is kinda upsetting. I come from a Classic car family and now i see Lots of old vintage cars being destroyed instead of restored.

AMEN!!! I watched the same thing happen when metal prices went through the roof! Its sad and distgusting... But hey "were helping the enviorment" Right???lmao, i think that stopping the intense amount of bombs dropping might do a bit more than getting rid of older cars and putting new ones out..... But hey what do i know, right,lol.... Speaking of emissions, my 1964 Grand prix passed emissions cleaner than the new prius did,lol...!!!

Old Vintage cars?
With the CARS program trade ins cannot be older than 25 years.
I am still going to keep my Rx2
Very few first gens will qualify, mostly just second gens and they are "vintage."

Yeah its not like people are scraping 57 Chevy's or Porsche speedsters . most cars that qualify from 1984-2001 are more than worthy of being scrap metal

I'm sell cars at the moment and this program is crap, a bunch of people that cannot afford new cars are getting into payment they cannot afford. Who is going to pick up the pieces next time...?

+ only things being traded are pick ups and vans, useful **** that deserves someone to use them for running parts and taking rear ends to the dump.

++ if obama wanted to stimulate the american economy, how come they did not stipulate domestic cars only qualify?? the whole thing is super fishy

I've been researching this on a couple of web sites, and one comment from some lady in the midwest was that she passed on buying a prius at 50 mpg to buy a ford focus hybrid at 31 mpg to support the american car maker, and when she looked at content, the ford was 90% made in mexico. So much for domestic cars. I have not verified this, so it may be bs, but it is more than possible.

oh, and this bill isn't obama's. it was proposed in congress by Dianne Feinstein CA as a much different bill that would have given credit for green cars and had a much more stringent mpg increase, + was good for used vehicles. it got modified by the congressmen from Michigan et al so it ended up being another car maker bailout.

Wonder what they would Do if you rolled into the dealership with no fenders or windows or doors. or exhaust system. And Rims?
does the car have to have rubber on the rims?

Well the deal is done.

Got my Rx7 running with e very old and dead 13B, had to set the idle at about 3,000 just to keep the engine running. Got most the stuff I wanted off the car before I took it down. Trailered the car to about two blocks from the dealership and got a running started down the hill and limped the car into the dealership.

In the end Mazda added another $500 to the $4,500 for the Fed and I ended up with a $5,000 trade in from my 1985 Rx7. My wife loves her new Mazda 3.

PS – My economy has been stimulated.
