atf to break up carbon build up, and loosen seals?

ok ive read on more then a few ocasions of people pouring atf down the compustion chambers to loosten up seals and break up carbon build up to restore compression a bit, i have a freind that has a 2nd gen he is trying to start, and well its got spark, fuel, but wont turn over, someone suggested to him he might have carbon build up, so i told him about that trick, said unbolt your cat first so you dont plug that up cause i know itll smoke like a bitch, but what i wasnt sure on is how do you drain the atf after it sits in there for a wile, or do you just send it threw the exaust ports when it turns over? anyone feel free to go into detail on this prosess for me, and any other suggestions he can try to get this thing running
thanks

If the engine is actually seized up then carbon may be the culprit. It's pretty rare, but it does happen. Unsticking carbon lock often means taking the starter out and turning the engine backwards by hand. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a chemical that would dissolve it but all you really need to do is get it loose.

well, everytime i had to do that the engine was out. the i would let it sit a day or so then turn it a bit, fill it up again and let sit. then when it would turn good i would also go through the exhaust ports and rub and push on the apex seals to loosen them up, until they moved in and out freely. i guess it all depends on the challenge you are having and how bad the engine is carbon lo9cked. there is also a spray called seafoam i think that works real well also.or you can use marvel mystery oil, yet that gets expensive. if you are doing it with engine in car i would suggest pulling off the exhaust manifold and ppouring through there. will be easier than the spark plug hole and you wont have all the fluid soaking into the exhoust. LOTS OF SMOKE FOR AWHILE, KINDA COOL IF YOUR NOT DRIVING. but main key thing is for sure to let the chemicals sit and work. good luck.

don't use atf unless you don't want your oil control rings to survive. atf will kill them. use marvel mystery oil or seafoam available at any auto parts store.

hmm, interesting the car turns over its not froze up, but someone suggested to him it maybe not starting due to carbon build up, hes got spark fuel and all that to make it run, any other reason why it wouldnt be starting?

I think this is the reason. Carbon buildup on the seals -> seized seals -> no compression.

I usually let the MMO soak into the seals for 24 hours, and then start it up. Use 1/4 bottle of MMO in each of the two chambers. If your buddy doesn't have time to let it soak, he can put in the MMO and try to start the car immediately (the amount of MMO sometimes gives enough "compression" to start the engine). That sometimes works the first time, but he may have to try it again with the same amount of MMO. If that doesn't work, then he'll have to do it right and let the seals soak overnight at least. Once it starts, don't shut it off for at least 15 minutes.

Buy two bottles of MMO, and go for it.

It's not allwyas the apex seals. I let my S513BT sit in MMO for two weeks and all the apex seals moved freely I could get it to run for 2-3 seconds at a time and it would smoke out of the breather. When I tore it apart. Every single side seal was carbon locked and that's why it had really low compression. enough to run for a second but not enough to go.

we used the power foam by amsoil, its a carb cleaner, but its easy to spray into the spark plug holes, and the carb orthrottle body. it goes in as a spray and foams up, breaks up the carbon real nice. exhaust will smoke like crazy, but works

exaust smoke seems to be the common thing to all remadys for this, i havent talked to him yet, he was sopose to call, but marval mystery oil really all it is, is atf and mint oil, one or two things in there for seals,, but essentially same thing odly enough

Ive used C-Foam. Unbelievable the amount of black sludge / crud that comes out of the engine.
